January 10, 2012

Yeah, a bit of a delay. Had to cancel Tuesdays the last couple of weeks due to things going on, etc. but I'm back. Perhaps I'll dig up what was played on the make up days.

But, last night we were going to have four of us. Mike arrived and after some discussion, he chose Factory Fun. Both Timm and Chris had played, along with me, so it seemed to be a good game to start with. Timm and Chris arrived as we were setting up the game. We did a rules review as it had been awhile (July) since we played and we were off, producing goo. Chris really could never get his factory going, losing money at every turn. I grabbed machines that gave me more vats of goo, but I think that sort of hurt me more than anything as I failed to work on flow to earn me bonus points. Timm and Mike both had excellent plants going, producing all sorts of goo and earning bonus chips. At the end, I had 58, Mike had 82, Chris had 0 and Timm had 113.

For the second game we struggled to pick on. GAH! Ultimately, we chose Wyatt Earp an alea card game. Also, for me, it was the first Mystery Rummy game I had played (even if it's not titled Mystery Rummy). Everyone picked it up pretty quickly, actually (it is only Rummy) and we played. The game took us three hands with Timm dominating the second hand giving him an insurmountable lead. He ended with 28k, Chris had 17k, Mike and I each had 12k. This one is my second favorite Mystery Rummy game behind one of my all time favorite games, Mystery Rummy: Al Capone and the Chicago Underworld.

Since we were on a card groove, we broke out Dominion (which includes Intrigue and Seaside. Not sure if I had ever mentioned it but I keep all my cards for the game in seperate little plastic baggies. Each deck, like Harem, has it's own little bag. I dumped all the cards for all three games into one box and we just grab ten random baggies to play the game. Easy to randomize, easy to put away, and easy to play since I'm not dickin' around with three boxes. ANYWAYS, we played the first game where we had eight of the 10 cards costing 5 and including five attack cards. Oooo, fun (actually, it was). Lots of curses in the game with it being difficult to cull your deck of them. I pulled out the win with 25, Mike had 20, Timm had 18 and Chris had 14. Mike left after that hand so just Chris, Timm and I played two more games. The second game with no attacks ended up with Timm at 47, I had 40 and Chris had 36. The third game was super quick. Money was ramped up quickly by all and it was a true, tense, race to kill the Provinces. Timm had 37, Chris had 36 and I had 27 in that one.

Okay, I went to see what we played on the Tuesday Evening Games on Thursday. On 12/29 we played Hansa Teutonica with five. I had concerns about actions but others gave me some ideas but the scores were Chris 44, Kevin 71, Timm 49, Mike 32, and I had 33. Lords of Scotland was also played. Cool game with some vague examples in the rules. Chris won with 41 (his game devil), Kevin 39, Timm 39, Mike had 38, and I had 32.

On 1/5/12 we had three of us. Kevin, Timm and me. We played Egizia first. My hot, new to me game. I dig this one, a lot. Kevin grabbed the win with 119, I had 95 and Timm had 87. After that, we played numerous hands of Sheepshead with Timm, I believe, ending the night up.

Good times!

For Factory Fun, I am not sure I can comprehend a player scoring zero. Likewise, while it is conceivable, as we have been in the high 90s, 113 is a crushingly brilliant score.

The guy who had zero started out rough and wasn't getting anything positive going. The high score was very good. He had a ton of bonus chips.
