Wow - another terrific time at LA's Strategicon/Orccon convention. I got to stay with wife and baby for the entire event Friday through Monday, and even brought the older kids on Sunday for their first time. I'm going to start to work tomorrow on my annual Orccon Geeklist report, but I just have to hand it to the staff for providing such an eclectic and varied event. It just keeps getting better every year. Eyes out for the geeklist when it goes live and of course I'll post the link here.

A few quick thoughts:
worker - I am historically an "overrater". I usually rate games higher on my first play than I would after my third play. In other words, a lot of my "7" games become "6", and a lot of the "8" become "7". Every once in a blue moon, I rate something to start, and then in future plays that number goes up. VERY rarely this happens! It happened to Chaos in the Old World and Cyclades. It certainly happened again this weekend. 7 Wonders is moving steadily up and threatening to reach even higher levels! I just loved it this weekend and can't wait to play it again. My wife is even talking about it.

building - Runewars is one of Fantasy Flight Games' best. Sometimes I feel that a game is purposely designed long just to get an 'epic' feel, opposed to the design itself being epic and the mechanics working to make it so. Runewars is a great example of what I think an epic/long game should be.

aristocrat - Perhaps my favorite thing about these cons is that I keep making new friends at them. Of course, seeing the friends you've already made through the years is such a treat.

More thoughts and a new post when my head clears and the piles of work at home is caught up on.
