So after playing a LOT on xbox 360, and laying out the tiles and playing against myself...I have NO frigging clue how to better myself. I know it lies in mastering farmers...BUT WHOOPIE DO! Knowing what to do and doing it aren't the same, are they?Carcassonne

What are you having trouble with? Some more details would help people make useful comments.

You can always play without farmers, but I don't know if that's possibe on the X-Box 360.
Otherwise, you got to keep an eye/overview on how the landscape is growing, place the farmers where you can possible connect to more cities in one of your next turns.

Don't know about the AI on the x-box, but in the pc version it's pretty tough to beat, even on "easy" level.

The AI is pretty easy up until the last level. I play ranked matches so I can't turn off any of the rules. It scores using the common rules, 2 part castles = 4 points.

I don't know what i'm having trouble with really. I maybe just don't "see ahead"?

Farms are a pain for me to score, and castle and road stealing is almost impossible for me to figure out, and when i do it usually gets stolen back. farms as well.

You only want to try and steal a feature if it's worth a lot of points, say, 10+. Maybe a bit less than this if it won't take you much effort. Otherwise, try and just make it impossible to complete - that way your opponent's meeple is stuck, and you'll have more to work with.

For farms, if there's one large farm, try and maintain parity or an advantage on it. To stop your opponent sneaking back on, try and trap his meeples elsewhere so he has less to use. Otherwise, if he does get another guy on, then do the same.

1) I try to have a meeple on each feature type so when I get a tile it's always useful.

2) I try not to run out of meeples just in case there are more monasteries left, and for farming at the end.

3) I usually have one farmer down the whole game so I could get there first. But it can backfire if someone closes it in without many farms.

4) sometimes I consider having premeptively adding another meeple to a feature I'm building. Knowing how to see that possibility is another skill entirely. But basically it's just seeing that the tile I have can build the same feature type close enough that I might be able to join it up.

5) avoiding having your features stolen can be tough. It's usually easier with roads because you can often just keep laying down a straight road off to the middle of nowhere. Cities are more likely to curve around.
