After conceiving of the idea last week, I put together some tiles and cards for the first run of a game I'm working on. Both Timm and Kevin thought it was a good idea last week but it remained to be seen if it would work.
Chris came over this week, as well, so we sat down to a four person game of "my new game". I have no title or theme yet but had working rules. So, we played.
About the game, it's a trick taking game inspired by Was sticht? and For Sale (in a nutshell). We played and Kevin ended up the winner with 27. Chris had 9, Timm had 6 and I had -2. Throughout the game and after the game, we discussed what was working and what wasn't. In my head it seemed to work perfectly, but in play there were some obvious things that came out. I thought it was a cool process as no one was shy in giving opinions and stuff to try next time. So, we jotted down the notes and will incorporate those next time. I want to play it a couple more times before I start typing rules out. Personally, I'm pretty excited about this.
After that game (which took about 50 minutes), we broke out the standby The Princes of Florence. Always a good one as we need no refresher to play, it's scratches the right itch, just flat out good. Timm managed to break the game open with being able to grab Jesters fairly cheaply. I know why I gave up working on them as I had one and was working for my prestige cards and works. Those weren't necessarily in my plans. I screwed up where I thought I had one extra round. i.e., I didn't get my last work down like I thought I would. Timm ended with 70, Kevin had 60, Chris had 57(?) and I had 55. The scoring is a rough approximation as, of course, I forgot my note slip at home this morning. Damn lack of caffine.
After PoF, we mulled around trying to figure out a game. I know I was wishy-washy yesterday. But, we came to a consensus and broke out Saint Petersburg. When Timm suggested it and then proclaimed "I always lose this game", it was the game of choice. It had been a long while since I played four players. The worker deck was being burned through awfully quickly which, to me, kept the scores low. We were buying up a lot of the special cards as they came out favoribly for us. Kevin really worked to get points every round and in the last round he managed to get a big building down. Chris leapfrogged me as he had eight nobles (I had six). I was a close third and Timm was a distant fourt. I think Kevin had 65, Chris had 56, I had 53 and Timm had 32.
