My new years resolution this year was to post more on BGG, or even some. Basically less lurking more participation. I initially decided that I would do this by ways of writing up reviews of the games that I played. But after reading some of the reviews that had already been written I decided that there was no way that I could match that level of detail or quality. So instead I've decided to write these in a blog form. Not necessarily for anyone else to read, I seriously doubt that they would be interested anyway, but more for my own reflection on the games that I have played.

I've been thinking about how I would rate/review games. I think I've narrowed it down to 6 categories:

Components/Quality
Rules
Game Play
Downtime
Would I play again
Rating out of 10

I feel that these 6 categories would give me the best opportunity to capture everything that I wanted to say about the games. But as this is a work in progress, chances are that in time I will come up with extra categories and retire others that don't seem to be working out as well. But this would games that have already been rated at a disadvantage. So to combat this as I play a game I'll compare it with other games that I've played and put it in a list that way. For example is Catan better or worse than Ra? Worse? Ok order is RA Catan. Is Citadels better than RA? No, ok is it better than Catan? Yes, so it will go in that slot etc. It is possible that I will slot a game in the list higher than I rate it. Also every now and then I will review the list and re-evaluate them.

Also this isn't just for games that i'm playing for the first time. I will try and rate every game as I play it again from now. (Yes I have some work ahead of me).

I'm not going to explain exactly how to play the games, there are much better reviews on that out there, I'm more just going to talk about what I liked and didn't like about these games.
