Feb 22. MY BIRTHDAY!!!

Because it was my day, I got to pick the games we played. I was pretty geeked up after having a so-so weekend and just waiting for my day. My birthday is important to me. I celebrate the month, and even more so, my day.

Anyhoo.

Timm arrived early so as we waited we broke out Crokinole and some Modelo's. Timm pulled out the win in an abbreviated game as Kevin arrived. With Kevin, the three of us have a running three-handed Schafkopf game going. We keep a running score week after week when we can squeeze a few hands in. We played three hands on Tuesday with me increasing my lead. I think I was on the winning side in all three hands. I had a couple of non-picking but deadly to the picker hands. Nice.

Chris arrived. We had about a half hour and since it was MY day, we pulled out Some'R'Set until BJ arrived. We played three hands and the team of Kevin/Chris won. Timm and I got set on the last hand. I probably played it wrong in hindsight. Love, love, love the game. I'm so glad we are playing it regular.

BJ arrived for his first visit with us. He brought some good beers (as did everyone else) but I don't remember any of the names. So, while waiting for Jeff, we played Category 5. By the time BJ arrived, I was on my way, so it was shaping up to be lighter games and games where everyone was involved (instead of breaking up the table into two). We got in two hands with Kevin getting 16 (and the win), Chris with 17, BJ with 23 (his first game of this), I had 28 and Timm had 59 (had a 40 point hand the second hand).

Jeff arrived, and again, since it was my birthday, I pulled out I'm the Boss!. This game went quick! Much quicker than I remember. We didn't have a lot of I'm the Boss cards and deals were flying all over the place. It got more lively as we went along (probably fueled by beer). Im the end BJ won with 45, Chris had 39, Timm had 28 and Kevin, Jeff and I each had 23. I still really like this one, I know it's not everyone elses cup of tea, tho. I probably won't play this again until next year.

The Mississippi Queen and The Mississippi Queen: The Black Rose were up next. We had to do a refresher of the rules and off we went. We only used the 6th player from the expansion. It's a fun game with six. I had only played with three previously. BJ jumped out to a huge lead early but Chris expertly handled picking up passengers and ended up overtaking him at the end for the victory. I took last (so much for letting me win on my day, you bastages).

By the end of that game, we were all well on our way. I don't remember when we broke out "The Skull" but it was either before M.Queen or before the next game we played, PitchCar. We used all sorts of expansions, including the long straights. No jump. I don't have the jump (and don't care for it either). So, we had a great little track setup and with minimal shimming, we were off and running our three lap race. Lots of hootering and yelling during the game fueled by beer. Timm had a pretty comfortable lead after a bit as the rest of us were flinging our cars into the wall, sugar glider cage, etc. But, Timm got hung up and the rest of us hit the long straight with an expert touch to make it a race again. But, it wasn't to last. Timm managed to get the win. It was a good game to end the gaming part of the night with. Then BJ, Timm, and myself went off to do karaoke (at least BJ and I sang). Good time!

ACE OF SPADES! THE ACE OF SPADES, UH!

See, even that was 'game related'.

Ooh, 3-handed Schafkopf. Does that play as well as 4-handed? Wouldn't matter to me because I'd enjoy it, anyhoo, but idly curious.

I prefer 3-handed over 4-handed, actually. In three handed, the Aces are strong and can almost be counted on to gain tricks.
