My wife and I have always been avid card gamers and would typically play games that used a standard deck of cards whenever we could. We never really got tired of these games but we wanted something more to play that was a little different. So after a little searching I came across Board Game Geek about 5 years ago.

The first game we purchased was Ticket to Ride and it has received a number of plays ever since we got it. Having different card types in the game was something new to us. Of course there are the cards you play with in order to place trains, but you also need your destination tickets (cards) in order to achieve victory.

However, the mechanics of Ticket to Ride also rely on the large map to place your trains and achieve the destinations you have drawn. Since my wife and I travel a lot we also wanted to look at games that could travel well. This led us to looking specifically at card games that we could pack up and put in our overnight bags for many of our weekend trips. The natural extension of card games are tile games so our collection has ended up focusing on card games and tile placement games. The final category I would say we play often are dice games.

Based on this, I think it is pretty clear we like some luck in our games. Games to us are meant to be fun and a game that is 100% strategy is likely going to always have a winner that understands the strategy the best. The use of cards, tiles, or dice adds the level of luck that we like in our games.

For a number of years I was happy to just browse BGG and not really become that involved. However, that all changed in 2011. My wife and I started playing games a lot more last year after we stumbled upon the She's Asleep! geeklist. The reason we found this was of course because we found out we were expecting our first child and wanted to see how other gamers adjusted to playing games with a little one. This was also the year I started participating more contributing to geeklists, the forums, even recording game plays and raking games, and even got involved in the Secret Santa for the first time. I had officially become an addict!

With the start of 2012 and our game collection growing rapidly, we made a resolution to start playing a new game at least once a week. This gives us a chance to play something new as opposed to sticking with what we knew and played best. This blog will aim to be a discussion of the new games we play on a weekly basis as well as some of our favorite games and games we are looking at acquiring. I will always appreciate any comments you may leave and hope you find something interesting here!
