Played tanto cuero, the Japanese maid game. Better mechanics than dominion, but basically the same game. Played puerto Rico again, after all my computer games training to get better, came in last. And play tested utopian conflict, the mechanics seem to work, just has some bugs in it.

Really wish we had some new blood in our gaming group, it has gotten stale and we seem to disagree on things more.

A lot more.

But that helped me reevaluate some things. I have been buying games that I think the group will like, and I'm not sure they will, and even then it will most likely be a one time play. On the other hand my old gaming group I only see every few months likes euro games...I THINK. But I think they are like how I used to be and can't see the good mechanics of a game because of it's theme. I like puerto Rico the game, but have zero interests in colonies or shipping goods or any of that stuff. So I have to be mindful of anything I think the second group would like to play. So I end up not getting games I would like because 1. I can't justify the price for a one time play or 2. Get multiple plays once a month (at best) and feel like I am forcing someone to play them.

I would be content to play carcassonne and a few cards games for the rest of my gaming career. I have yet to play cadwallon: city of thieves, and its been looking at me for about a month. So...I have come to the conclusion that I shall purchase no more games unless the price is just silly cheap or...that's pretty much it. Or trade, but
Not sure if that counts.

But what point is in buying games, that you don't like but your gaming group? Or have I misunderstood you, and you still buy games you like - and also your gaming group?
But maybe these games are not the games you like MOST, because your gaming group would not like them?

Boy, this is a difficult situation. Almost sounds as if you should find another gaming group, which shares your taste in games...

There aren't a lot if gamers from the city I'm in. Gaming isn't that big of a thing here. So...not a lot of options.

And I'll be honest, most gamers I have met are weird in some
Form or another. Some times I can get past their hang ups (I have several myself) and some times I can't. I draw the line at people that smell.

I find not harm in buying games not only me, but others will like.

What I would suggest, dig more into what your gaming group wants - maybe do an online interview (most people are more honest if in an online forum as in real life)?

The trick is to get those games which are liked by you AND your gaming group (like Almecho said).

Wow, your post is like...straight out of my mind. I too am growing tired of my group. We're definitely annoying each other more and more. Everybody has quirks, and I've always been tolerant but lately everything grates on me. This is a shame because I continue to buy games (I only buy games I suspect that I'll like) at a constant rate which get played once and never again because people feel slighted when they lose...among other things. I thank ios apps for their inbuilt AI.

My gamecenter ID is neo42 if you want to play carcassonne or ticket to ride via async.

As far as the topic: I have been in ruts before. Unable to get my group to try a new game, or unsure what to get. Sometimes the qwirks of my gamers are that some of them just won't play certain types of games. And when you get two or three of those types together with a strange player count like 5, man can it be hard to figure out the next game then. 6 is my favorite count because 2 groups of 3 works very well (and the picky people can often be in different games). We have on occasion also done a group of 2 and a group of 3 but it's rare. 7 players works just as well as 6.

The hardest thing about board gaming is board gamers. It's really, really hard to please everyone at the gaming table, but some are definitely harder to please than others. It's nice to be able to come to a concensus about what to play, but this is often not possible. Therefore, it (really) helps if people are open minded and willing to compromise occasionally.

The people that irritate me the most are the ones who will 1.) not play a game based on theme alone, or 2.) who will let outside environmental factors (too hot, too cold, uncomfortable chair, too much ambient noise, etc.) influence their judgment of a game. The first is simple, stubborn immaturity - the second is a lack of, or unwillingness to exercise their facility for, introspection.

i dont know if number two is fair.

if i'm sweating or shivering because of the temp, that effects my play.
if i have to wipe away sweat every few seconds and then dry my hand before i can even touch the piece AND try not to drip on the board, yeah that gets in my way. its not so much i can't look into myself it just becomes a question of if this is worth playing a game for.

and if someone has some music on that i can't stand that also effects my play. or some crappy talk radio or something. its the same to me as if some dude was standing next to me just talking about stuff.

Oh, I'm not saying that our environment doesn't affect us or our enjoyment of a game - it certainly does. All I'm saying is that if we are honest with ourselves, we won't judge the game itself based on these factors.

I also didn't read it correctly. You put judgement OF a game. I read it as IN a game.
