Rune Age

Just learned and played RuneAge for the first time. Did the first scenario with the solo rules.

It's kind of hard.

Not like space hulk the card game hard, where a game just hates you and spits in your facing while making your momma jokes at you.

But still kind of hard.

The rule book seemed to leave out a few details that i only picked up on in the example fights. or i could have overlooked them.

I'm a little unclear about spending influence and gold. In a dominion term, im not sure how many 'buys' you get. It seems you get as many as you have currency for. Also it seems that you can't use your "people" to get their abilities unless you attack something with them. in a way it makes sense.

example, i have an elf that refreshed a land, which i could then use to buy something, but i can't just pop the elf down...it has to go attack something. so in order to get the refreshed land, it has to go to war, which it alone can't...so yeah anyway.

the game moves pretty fast. i was just messing around getting a feel of the buying and the event deck was tearing my city apart. i ended up losing, pretty bad actually.

the deck building works similar to dominion, u buy a card, put it in discard pile, rinse repeat. except if a card is wounded, or killed, it goes back to the pile where u bought it. so if you go to war, and do badly, you LOSE your army and have to rebuy /rebuild it. all the while the event deck is pounding on your home.

if a person likes dominion, but wishes there was more of a combat element, or a pvp element...then this is your answer.

but as it is a FFG game, it is limited i think. the game only has 4 scenarios and only 2 of which are solo play from what i can read.
that's not SO bad because you have 4 races/factions so you could get at least 8 "different" plays out of it before you can say you have done it all.

i think there are some rules in the back for making the game more custom, but i think its just for putting more hire units in the deck instead of the ones the scenario calls for.

the foot print of the game is pretty big too. there will be 4 rows of cards in the middle when you start, and your play area will have three rows with one row to be filled in shortly there after.

plus discard piles, and event deck, and the dice.

space hulk is kind of big as well though..6-12 rows? each marine plus draw piles, etc.

is it the end all be all single player card game?
i dont think so.

would it make a good addition to a single player's game collection?
yeah

is it good in multiplay?
can't tell you as of now. but i could see it being so. as long as people are ok with being attacked if they have something you want. it is playable co-op or vs.

I haven't checked their website, but i'm hoping they make some expansions for it. though its pretty easy to make some home made ones. the cards used for the scenarios are diff on the back than the normal play cards, so even just printing them out would be ok.

Question: How can you be an Athiest AND a Satanist? Surely the former precludes belief in the latter?

I get this a lot. Look up Lavey satanist. I am a satanist, not a worshiper of satan. The only "god" I have is myself. And I'm kind of pissed about the upside down cross bullshit here on bgg. There are popes that use that, for they feel unworthy. I think there is one on the popes chair

Edit- sorry it was st Peter that felt unworthy.

It's always fun to learn something unexpected. I think LaVeyan Satanists made a poor choice by trying to repurpose the traditional meaning of the word, although they probably made a conscious decision because they enjoy(ed) the inevitable confusion.

It's nothing more than a PR thing.

Ok my gaming blog isn't the place for this. I don't mind if we talk about it. Just not here. out4blood has already made his little comment and its going to just snow ball from there.

if there is a random bs forum somewhere you guys want to talk in, just send me a link and im there. or even email or messaging. but anymore comments on my blog not about gaming i'm going to delete.

i really dont want a damn flame war going on.

not mad, just stopping this before it goes any further.

I hope I'm not violating your wishes in saying this, but honestly, I'm only writing to compliment you.

My beliefs apparently are the complete opposite of yours, but I'm extremely impressed with how you handled this thread. You're open to the topic, but not here. Very well done.

Now, back to Rune Age....
