Here's some video from the floor to give you an idea of the magnitude of the toy fair. Kick back and enjoy the soothing sounds of some of my favorite classical tracks, and pretend you are there without braving the -6 degree weather.

Also note that this video is only of the game halls, which only occupy 2 of the 17 halls of the Nurnberg Messe! Also, the game halls are smaller than several of the other halls, so you can imagine how huge the entire show is.

Yep!!!

Hey what's this fair about? Looks like more an exhibition than a place where to game some... right?

This is a huge meeting point for BUSINESS people, not gamers. There are only a few booths, where you may try some game - when it is easy enough to having it explained in two minutes and short enough to not disturb the presentation for sellers, contract makers, potential collaborators, and so on.
The "different" spot you can see at 29:35 is the "Games Café", the "headquarter" of the SAZ (Game Designer`s Guid). Here you can sit down, take a game from the shelf and give it a go. Or meet game designers presenting their prototype to some publisher or just to each other.
On this video you can spot Jens-Peter Schliemann, Stefan Risthaus, Torsten Landsvogt and Jürgen Grunau - and in the back my video camera waiting for the next interview held at the larger table in the corner.

Looks interesting.. And I don't see the game in the submission queue yet..

Is there anybody out there with more info on this game? Maybe you, Daniel?

Thanks,
Martijn

We used a sony HD handycam - I'm not sure if Scott carried this by hand or on monopod. but yes - he did a great job of getting some stable footage.

I had a feeling it was one of those... the optical steadyshot feature in the newer sony handycams is *really* impressive... The cameras use accelerometers to track camera movement/jolts, then physically move the CMOS around inside the camera to smooth it all out. Clever stuff!

I'm sure someone has explained before, but I would love a rundown on the major differences between board gaming in America vs. board gaming in Germany/Europe. Obviously this convention is aimed at business folk but the vibe here is completely different than what we would see here in the states. I'd love to know about the cultural differences and the overall opinion of board games over there!

Also, I should mention that I find it funny how non-attached all of these people seem. There were at least 4 times where I thought someone was going to run in to you because they were not paying attention or more concerned with their cell phone.
