Chris was the first to arrive with Timm texting stating he would be about 15 minutes so we broke out a quick game of Can't Stop. Ewww, that was such an abrupt beginning to this blog. I dont' like it, but I'm struggling to find interesting openings.
Didn't I ramble about this last week?
Well, Chris and I started playing and I had managed to close out the 7's when Timm arrived. He jumped in and proceeded to close out the 5's and make a game of it (after he missed at least three turns). He closed out the 12's and was one away from closing out the 8 but did not want to risk it. My turn was next and I closed out the 4's and being one away from closing out the 8's myself. I didn't wimp out, I rolled and closed it up for the win.
We broke out 7 Wonders next. I find that I do enjoy this game, and was especially fun with three. The cards are awful. I'm glad I got this game in a trade (and didn't trade much for it). I folded a card by accident without really doing much. Most cards would have bent and sprung with what I did, not this one, it folded and has a pretty bad crease. For a game where cards are the game, it's pretty piss poor. Regardless, we played it and blazed through the game. I managed a healthy win with 54, Timm had 47 and Chris had 41. I grabbed up resources and tossed down victory cards as my main source of points.
We tore through those two games pretty quickly so it was time for something a little heavier. It was time for Luna! We do a random setup for the game. This particular game wasn't one of my best showings. I mismanged my shrine building, I didn't get into the temple enough. I definately was not dialed in on what I needed to do and anything long term. Chris did well and started coming on at the end, but it was too little to override Timm's big start. Timm had 81, Chris 70 and I had 62.
We had time but I think the consensus was nothing really heavy or long. Dominion along with Intrigue and Seaside sounded good. Now, if the 7 Wonders cards were made like these, I would not have folded the one. Anyways, our first game was a weird setup. No 5 cost cards. No extra buys, the Treasure Chest and a bunch of extra actions (including the Haven). We weren't sure about this set but it ended up playing pretty well and quick. Timm was the first to use his Treasure Chest to get a bunch of gold, Chris was second. I lagged too far behind. But by that time, it was a race for Provinces. Timm won with 49, Chris had 37 and I had 34. The second game was the opposite...a ton of 5 cost cards but really, not a lot of good stuff. This could have been, quite possibly, the worst game of Dominion I had ever played. Seriously. Chris cleaned up with 50. Timm had 39 and I had 26. Ug.
This Saturday, we got a group of five and going to play Risk Legacy. I've been looking forward to this as the theory behind the game intrigues me. I hope it doesn't disappoint.
