Introducing Alvin & Dexter

It wasn't long ago when I heard about Alvin & Dexter for the first time, and I immediately fell in love with the them. The idea sounded so fantastically crazy; aliens and dinosaurs... and Ticket to Ride? But the reviews I read proved me that they would really add something valuable to the game as well.

The decision to get the expansion wasn't so clear though. I introduced it to my boyfriend, who also happens to be my one and only gaming partner, and he wasn't into the idea at all. And why should I get the expansion if there wasn't anyone to play with it with me?

But I simply couldn't resit. I just couldn't. I walked by the board game store and I just had to get in to ask if they had Alvin & Dexter. And they had! At home I hid the expansion to the Ticket to Ride box, mostly because I wasn't sure how my boyfriend would react to it... I thought I rather surprise him when the next play turn comes.

And today it finally came.

And he liked the expansion probably more than I did. He was really into moving Alvin & Dexter and he used them to block my game. It wasn't very nice, but at the same time I was happy that he wasn't mad at me for getting the expansion without his approval.

We weren't into the extra scores that came with the expansion though. We don't even use the "globetrotter" card because we think it gives too much advance. But we decided to use Alvin & Dexter bonus cards, we just lowered it to 5 points.

Yes. Our current tablecloth is kinda funky and it doesn't work with board games at all. Every little piece gets lost in the pattern! Though I can't blame the tablecloth for my yet another lost. I scored 191 with purpletrain and my boyfriend got 209 with blacktrain. I think now I should have moved Alvin & Dexter a lot more often, but I just didn't have enough useless locomotive cards to do that!

My final verdict: I like it. I like it even though it means that I will probably lose even more often. I'm not sure if I want to play every time with Alvin & Dexter, but every other time for sure. And I'm very happy that I got the expansion even though my boyfriend was so against it... It's a girl's job to prove the boyfriend wrong, right?

Being the "boyfriend", I have to make some excuses for my prejudices. I had only heard few comments and somehow gotten an idea that their movement is more random, and I didn't like that idea. But as I now know, I was totally wrong. It was great fun, and now there's a way to mess with you without making any permanent damage.

I couldn't look at this review without hearing the Beatle's song, "Ticket to Ride"... which immediately got replaced by a t-rex roar when I saw the yellow dinosaur figure.
