4th Friday Home Game Night: Flint, Michigan

This blog shares a bit about what goes down at my home game group. I'll write about what worked and what didn't and thoughts about games played. I decided to start a monthly game group at home to get more people interested in gaming and to get more games to the table. I'm a family man with a 2 year old daughter at home so it's tough to give up another night away from home so my wife and I settled on the idea of started a regular group in our home. We love having new people in our home and love the social space gaming creates. Feel free to subscribe and share your thoughts and ideas! We're new at this to every little bit helps!

So my first monthly game night was fantastic! We had 7 people come and got a bunch off games in.

Here's a quick run down of what went down:

Almost everyone was running a little late so I thought we'd start with a couple short, quick games to get things rolling as people arrived and as my wife worked on putting our daughter to bed. My 2 year old was a little bummed that so many people were showing up right when she was going to bed( I guess she's an extrovert like her dad). I think we decided to start at 8 instead of 7 next time so we can have her in bed already when people arrive so she won't get as upset.

So to start things off we played The Resistance and No Thanks!. I think they both worked well to get people interacting with one another and they were easy to teach so it didn't scare away the new guy who had never really played anything heavier than the typical party game. Then we all gathered together to play a 7 player game of Bohnanza. This is becoming one of my favorite games because it's unique and works so well in many different situations. My mother-in-law has even enjoyed this one!

After the openers we broke into 2 tables. 5 of us played Ticket to Ride with Ticket to Ride: Alvin & Dexter(while fun, it's not an everyday food). While the other two folks played 2 games of my prototype for the game I designed called Over The Road. One of the guys helped me with a rules review and wanted to check out how it played and he played with my sister-in-law who had also wanted to play my game. They seemed to think it was a good game so that was a nice self esteem boost.

While our game of Ticket to Ride went on for quite a while (I am now convinced it's a more fun game with less people) the other pair went on to play a game of Yomi (which I really want to play now) and a game of Blokus.

Everyone seemed to have a great time and is looking forward to next month.
