Description Edit | History

Pirates of the Spanish Main is the world’s first constructible strategy game. In Pirates of the Spanish Main, players make fleets of ships to sail to different islands looking for treasure. This booty is obtained in one of two ways: commanding your salty dogs to dig it out of the ground or sending your opponent’s ships to Davy Jones’ locker! Either way, game play is fast and fun, and the built-in damage tracking system makes Pirates of the Spanish Main the game of choice of wannabe-buccaneers everywhere. (from the official press release)

Pirates of the Spanish Main will include 230 different collectible pieces, including ships, crew, treasure, and famous (and infamous!) personalities. It will sell in Booster Packs that each contain at least one ship, island, and crew; a small six-sided die; and complete rules for play.

Wizkids officially renamed the entire product line "Pirates of the Cursed Seas Pocketmodel Game" in 2008.

3 The Pirates of Catan
A custom ruleset that combines Pirates with Settlers of Catan. This adds resource collection, trading, colony building, and ship construction to the basic Pirates rules, using most of the core elements (and gamepieces) from Settlers. Previous knowledge of how to play Settlers is not required, but can be very helpful and is highly recommended. A quick reference guide with basic setup information and some helpful charts and tables can be found here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/48712

3 The Pirate Code (FAQ/Errata) - October 2009
The latest version of the FAQ for Pirates. This update includes errata for some Equipment, a new section on Mysterious Islands, and a variety of other necessary rulings and clarifications. Note that due to the demise of Wizkids this edition is technically considered "unofficial", even though all changes and updates included within would have been made had the company and game continued. The last "official" version can be found here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/36813

2 Captain on Deck!
This was a follow up article to Plunder & Sack that I had written. This set of rules adds "character" to the mix. I have in mind a player mat but haven't gotten around to making one yet. Hope you have fun with this. Feedback welcome.

2 Plunder & Sack
I wrote up a variant somewhat based on Sid Meiers' Pirates! a couple of years ago as a magazine submission, adding Secondary Ports and an expanding empire element to PotSM. It never saw publication, so I'm posting it here since someone might have fun with it. My son and I did while I was working on these rules. Feedback welcome.
