Twilight Imperium Third Edition is an epic empire-building game of interstellar conflict, trade, and struggle for power. Players take the roles of ancient galactic civilizations, each seeking to seize the imperial throne via warfare, diplomacy, and technological progression. With geomorphic board tiles, exquisite plastic miniatures, hundreds of cards, and introducing a rich set of strategic dimensions that allows each player to refocus their game-plan, the original designer Christian T. Petersen has seamlessly incorporated the better qualities of other recently popular games to improve on the game-play of the original TI, making it at once perfectly well-rounded and pleasantly familiar to experienced gamers.
TI3 is played by at least three players who belong to ten possible alien races, each with their own advantages and quirks. The 'designer notes' in the rulebook candidly and humbly acknowledge the inspiration for some of the improvements to the original game. The strategic game-play borrows the governing element from 'Puerto Rico' to involve players in an iteratively complex and yet fast-paced game experience with very little downtime. The game map, basic player progress and overall victory are dynamically determined in almost exactly the same way as they are by imaginative players of 'Settlers of Catan', while the "Command" system cleverly improves on the 'oil' logistical mechanism of 'Attack' to both manage turn-based activity and limit the size of armies, uniquely enabling weakened players to bounce back if they play their cards right.
Not included in the game-box: five geek buddies who all have the same twelve hours free as you.
Shipping in a massive (12” x 24”) epic-size box, this new giant-size edition of TI feature almost 350 masterfully sculpted oversize plastic miniatures - the typical TI units (Ground Forces, Cruisers, Dreadnoughts, Carriers, Fighters, PDS, and Space Docks) as well as two new units (the massive War Sun and the Destroyer). TI3 contains new oversize board tiles, more than 400 cards, every known civilization of the Twilight Imperium universe, almost every expansion rule and component ever published for TI, a gorgeous graphical overhaul, and an impressive full-color rules set.
Twilight Imperium Third Edition is nothing short of a massive epic release, and is destined to become a classic for years to come. FFG has directed all its craft, talent, and energy into this massive production. Are you ready for another Age of Twilight?
The publication of Twilight Imperium Third Edition (TI3) is a historical publication in FFG’s history. Twilight Imperium First Edition was FFG's first game product, and through two popular editions it has garnered a massive audience across the world and the Twilight Imperium name has been a pillar of growth and recognition for FFG.
Use this Excel spreadsheet to create your own races for TI3. It takes all the abilities (both positive and negative) of all existing TI3 races and presents them in an easy to use format so you can cherry pick your ideal race.
Now updated to v1.1 to fix various minor bugs
This tech tracker is designed to address the hassles in technology management and make the game progress faster. Each player has a checklist to quickly record the effects of techs, so that you (and other players) can see your abilities at a glance. The effects of tech are sorted by unit, so it is possible to quickly determine the combat strength and abilities of each unit.
The layout of the reference cards is meant to be small and compact. They are designed for experienced players who have a pretty good idea of what techs are available.
So, you have production capacity of 6, an available fleet supply of 4, and 5 resources with which to build. What's the most powerful battle fleet you can build? Quick! Everyone's waiting for you to decide!
If you answered "1 Cruiser and 3 Destroyers", then congratulate yourself on your deep understanding of the battle mechanics of this game and move along. For the rest of you, consider taking a look at this spreadsheet....
Compiled from an exhaustive (and exhausting) computational exploration of space battles using a space battle simulator program, the spreadsheet tabulates, for a large range of possible constraints on production capacity, fleet supply, and available resources, what is the most powerful space battle fleet you can build. In fact better than that, the spreadsheet...
Excel file contains a) setup instructions of the public objectives deck for hidden and revealed (Age of Empires) variants b) a sortable list of objectives for the original and Shattered Empires versions. Note: these are on different spreadsheets.
There are several objectives files out there, but I needed one that captured all the objectives in one place and allows me to more easily choose from them depending on the type of game I want (e.g. more or less combat, technology, etc)
