Description Edit | History

International Game Series game from Multi-Man Publishing (MMP).

Simulating the Pacific Front of World War II has always been one of the great wargame design challenges. The same distance that planes could cover in a few hours took days for ships and weeks for foot soldiers. Hostile jungles and great oceans combined to make logistics and transport of paramount historical concerns. These and other design puzzles are solvable by only the most gifted designers.

Renowned Japanese wargame designer Tetsuya Nakamura has successfully met these challenges and Multi-Man Publishing (MMP) is to offer the elegant result - Fire in the Sky. Fire in the Sky has, until now, only been available in Japanese.

With only one map and 180 counters, Fire in the Sky packs years of prior Pacific design attempts and experience into an effort that beautifully distills the essence of the conflict and serves as further proof that great things do indeed come in small packages. Fire in the Sky provides players with the same problems and perspectives faced by the historical combatants, yet does so in a game that can be played in 5 hours or less. The game is ingeniously balanced and so provides not only a look into the minds of the actual commanders, but also a fun, competitive and tense gaming experience.

The game includes glorious 1-inch counters, a clever map that integrates hexes and areas, and rules that cover all of the essential aspects of the Great Pacific War. Oil convoys and troop transports are as vital to victory as the massive Carrier fleets that steam over the vast Pacific. Tetsuya Nakamura’s intelligent and ingenious design also offers Western players a fascinating glimpse into the Japanese perspective on the war.

This was originally published in Old Game Journal Magazine #55 and is considered a cult hit wargame in Japan with a very fanatical following. Also published in Game Journal Special Issue #2.

Fire in the Sky won the Charles S. Roberts awards for Best Wargame Graphics (Charles S. Roberts Awards) for 2005.
Fire in the Sky was a nominee in the Charles S. Roberts awards for Best World War II Boardgame (Charles S. Roberts Awards) for 2005.

4 FITS - Expanded Sequence of Play - with TR and OIL Point reminders
I took the very useful Sequence of Play provided elsewhere here and colour coded Transport and Oil Point costs, to act as a reminder to players (esp the Japanese) of what costs are occurred in which Phases of the game. This will help in planning. I also added some points and corrections in red text, which can be changed back to black if you desire.

3 Fire in the Sky Game Logbook
Greetings fellow war gamers! Attached you will find Fire in the Sky- Battle Logbook. Print the first page (cover) on card stock material. After printing, fold the cover sheet in half and set aside. Print the other log pages and fold in half. Print no more than 9 pages for the interior pages. After printing, insert the log pages into the cover sheet and staple. You will need the long-reach stapler or go to your local office store for stapling. Now, armed with a logbook designed specifically for Fire in the Sky you can record each game. After scoring - logging your data on the battle simply placed the booklet with the game. Each time you pull the game out, you have this logbook. I hope you enjoy this booklet! Doug

2 Fire in the Sky Rules Summary
This is still 22 pages long but it helped me to learn this great game. I imagine that if you go through the rule book to underline the important stuff this is what you would come up with. Please notify me of innacccuracies.

3 Every Chart You'll Need for Fire in the Sky
File contains all game charts in a more colorful format. Larger and easier to read/reference than the charts on back of national data cards. Hope they are helpful! :-)

5 FITS Planning Map ver-1
Greetings Captain, Here is a hexed-map so you can plot/plan out your combat operations and to manage enemy air combat zones of control. You should do this while at work...the boss can see you are busy at something, he just doen't know what! I use it for solo games mostly as I can plan out my thoughts...

10 Combat_Transport_Reinforcement_Files
Attached in this Zip File are the following: Combat Chart Transport Cost Tables Japanese Reinforcement Table USA/Allies Reinforcement Table The reinforcement tables are similar to that used in Victory in the Pacific game by Avalon Hill way back when. You can quickly scan to see what is coming up next turn. Akthough the USof A has so many units, I had to make 3 pages to fit the counters used in FITS. (Sorry) What I do is lay one out on the table until it is time for the second/third pages to save tabletop space. Note: because of space, I did not include Optional Rules in the combat chart. I do hope they are worthy of this great game...let me know if I made any mistakes or changes you would require for your games.
