The Playboy Winner's Guide to Board Games (formerly A Player's Guide to Table Games)
"The rules to Elric are a mess--full of grammatical and typographical atrocities, misspellings, nonwords, and confusing nonsentences. While any number can play, the random, Cheshire Cat behavior of Elric (the character) minimizes any exercise of skill and helps limit the audience of Elric (the game) to people hopelessly addicted to Moorcock's brand of sword-and-sorcery." (Chaosium 1st edition review) Jon Freeman
"Elric's main strengths lie in the Battalia sheets, which are used to hold armies, thus stopping them from cluttering up the mapboard... The problem is that of most 'games of the book': namely that the simulation is at times shaky... Artwork is curious in the rulebook, adequate on the one-inch counters, good on the Battalia sheets, and, as usual from the Chaosium, excellent on the mapboard." (Chaosium 1st edition review) John Butterfield, Philip Parker, David Honigmann
Here is the completely rewritten, unofficial, revised rule book for the Avalon Hill edition and Chaosium 2nd edition copies of the ELRIC board game.
I edited together my previous FAQ and errata documents with the game rules, preserving the Avalon Hill numbering scheme and completely rewriting much of the book. This also incorporates official unit descriptions and scenarios published later by Avalon Hill. I also created new rules where needed (the original rule book states there are four different types of playing counters but there are actually six different types) and changed the rules in a few, rare instances for logic, clarity or game balance (these changes are marked by an asterisk *).
At the end of the document is my history of the game cobbled together from many different...
Complete errata file for the Avalon Hill and Chaosium Boxed Set versions of the game. Ambiguous rules are clarified, errors are corrected and missing rules are restored. Optional rules are included to improve or balance gameplay.
Thanks to Andrew Merritt, Gary J. Robinson and Jeffrey Seiken for some options and errata I've included in this document. Thanks also to Greg Stafford and Charlie Krank for designing the game in the first place.

NEW Elric Avalon Hill FAQ v. 3.1
Changes since 3.0: Made one major change to the text (answer to 10.31) after realizing that the SEARCH rules as written in the rules don't work for every case. Also rewrote a few sentences for clarity or brevity.
