History of the World works under the assumptions that all empires eventually fade and that the only things differentiating great empires from lesser ones is how much territory they conquer and how long it takes for their civilizations to disappear. To that end, the game is played in epochs, with every player handling a new empire during each; yes, some empires will be stronger than others, but a few clever mechanisms largely balance that out. At the end of each epoch, players score points for all their forces (from the current and previous empires) remaining on the board.
This varient is based on the original game and has not been tried with newer versions.
Instead of taking a single card at the start of an epoch listing what empire the player has available each player takes 4 cards.
1. An Army Card Showing the base number of armies available
2. A Navigation card listed how many seas the empire can navigate.
3. A Capital Card showing if the empire has a capital
4. A Start Location card showing where the empire is based.
Play then proceeds as normal.
We've found it makes the game more balanced that the original.
Version 1. 1 zip with 2 PDF files. One is an individual game record which records player's empires, scores for each epoch, and final outcome. The other is a log to recored the rankings of multiple games of HotW on 1 sheet.
