Description Edit | History

The Greeks & Eastern Kingdoms is the first expansion to Commands & Colors: Ancients. The armies of Philip, Alexander and the Successors meet the hosts of Persians, Scythians and Indians to the east. In this expansion, you will find historical scenarios that focus on the hoplites of classical Greece fighting off the invading Persian army at Marathon and Plataea; epic battles from the Peloponnesian War, the rise of Macedon and Alexander's battles of Gaugamela, Issus and Granicus against the Persians; and battles involving Alexander's successors. With your Greeks you will be able to turn west and battle the Carthaginians in Sicily, or as King Pyrrhus at Heraclea and Ausculum, battle the Romans.

This first expansion showcases over 20 scenarios (the package includes over 300 new unit blocks and stickers you need to fight out these battles). Now, that is a lot of history, but Commands & Colors: Ancients is, by design, a unique historical game system that will allow players to effectively portray stylized Ancient battles that play to a conclusion in less than an hour.

The battle dice resolve combat quickly and the command cards provide an element of luck that creates a fog of war and presents players with both challenges and opportunities for victory. Yet the tactics you need to execute conform remarkably well to the advantages and limitations inherent to the various Ancient units, their weapons, terrain and the history.

0 Block organiser illustrated inlay for Plano 3600 box
I've been asked to upload the files that I created for my own C&C:A boxes - here they are as a single four-page .pdf file. Inlays are included for Roman, Carthaginian, Greek & Eastern blocks. Print out at 100% (the files are scaled for 300dpi printers) and cut to the outside edge of the thick black lines. These four pages are - since they're copies of the ones I use on my boxes - designed for use with the main game plus the first expansion, thus if you do not have the Greek/Eastern expansion, you may want to simply put the dice in a bag down the side of the game box since. Where cutting the inner walls of the boxes were necessary to make spaces for the cards and the terrain hexes, I used a craft knife and scalpel with strong blades. Exercise caution and patience when doing this...

6 Sacred Band: the Theban Supremacy (395-338 BC)
5 CCA home-made scenarios of the period of Theban Supremacy (395-338 BC), between the end of the Peloponnesian War and the rising of Alexander the Great: Coronea, Tegyra, Leuctra, Mantinea and Chaeronea. The connecting thread of these scenarios is the Theban Sacred Band, which together with Epaminondas led Thebes to an ephemeral leadership over the Ancient World until their annihilation at Chaeronea: [ImageID=423803 inline] [ImageID=389911 inline] I have finally added the units with the same graphic style than the official scenarios. I used my Spartan labels for the spartan armies but you can, as the War Council says, "use Roman blocks". EDIT: The VASSAL module including these scenarios can be found...

20 Custom hoplite labels + leader markers (+ SPARTA)
These are special leader labels to use with spare blocks, in order to distinguish one of the leaders as LEADER of each army. I added a label for Spartacus, and some for the Spartan army below. They are repeated 5 times in order to fill the page, so you can share the printing with 4 other players! [ImageID=385755 inline] [ImageID=385758 inline] [ImageID=385761 inline]

12 Greek Tragedy: the Peloponnesian War (431-404 BC)
5 CCA home-made scenarios of Land Battles of the Peloponnesian War (Athens vs Sparta): Pylos, Sphacteria, Delium, Mantinea and Epipolae. Among them (guess which), the first landing and the first night scenarios of CCA: [ImageID=389895 inline] [ImageID=394358 inline] You will find that heavy Spartan hoplites do not guarantee victory against lighter Athenians! I have finally added the units with the same graphic style than the official scenarios. I used my Spartan labels for the spartan armies but you can, as the War Council says, "use Roman blocks". EDIT: The VASSAL module including these scenarios can be found HERE.
