Just Another Hannibal - Rome vs. Carthage Player Aid v1.0
|
|
In my attempt to "wrap my brain" around the extensive (for me) rules for this game, I cross-referenced the rules with existing player aids (and errata) to "carefully" craft this exhaustive, yet concise, presentation of the rules. I hope you find it useful. In some ways, this will look similiar to other player aids available on BGG; however, don't be fooled! A lot of time and effort was put into providing a reference that immediately answers subsequent questions based on previously stated rules. Enjoy!

PDF version of my Hannibal "Generals Cards"
|
|
Wanted to make this great play aid available to those who don't have access to Microsoft Excel...
Print out on cardstock, cut apart with scissors, and laminate (if desired). These cards put the leaders right in front of you, save table space, and are an attractive presentation of each general's forces. Just put CUs, Elephants, etc next to the general's picture. You can even shuffle the Roman leader cards and draw randomly to effect Roman consular elections.

Rome Card Odds
|
|
Ever wondered how many Battle Cards you needed to have a 50% or 80% chance
of winning a battle in Hannibal vs. Carthage?
I ran simulations of battles to find the answer. Given a specified attacker,
battle ratings for each general, and Carthage Battle Cards, I calculated how
many Roman Battle cards would be required for the Roman player to win 50% of
the time and 80% of the time respectively. To run the calculation, I played out
each scenario 10,000 times with random hands drawn from the deck every time.
Carthage General Battle Rating 4 assumes Hannibal (with Probe benefit)
I assume each player plays their cards in order of what % of each card type
they have. E.g. with 6 frontal assault and 5 Flank left, Flank left would be played
first because it's a higher percent of that...

Hannibal - Province Control Chart
|
|
Print out and use markers for either side, one per province (hint: I use tile spacers). Numbers in the hexes indicate minimum number of PCs to control that province. Put extra markers for uncontrolled provinces in the elephant box.

Summarized Rules V3.1 - VG - fits on one piece of paper
|
|
With permission from Steven who created this great help file ("All Rules in Summarised Format to Help Beginners"), here is a slightly modified version of the file.
The following changes have been made:
- removed setup, because everything is on the (VG) board
- added rules clarifications (e.g. straits movement, displaced generals, naval movement, interceptions)
- corrected errors: Walled cities 1) - not removal, but flipping of PCs
- added numbers of different battle cards
- added known board error (VG edition)
If you print this file double-sided, two pages per page, it fits on one piece of paper and is still well readable.
If you have any comments, suggestions or corrections, please contact me.
Thanks for the permission, Steven
