The Spoils is a card game which was released in 2006 by Tenacious Games.
The Spoils taps into a lot of other card games for some of its game-play mechanics. While it shares common traits with games such as Magic: The Gathering and Magi Nation, the game is uniquely its own.
Unlike many games of its kind, you start the game with a figurehead, or faction card in play that determines how you begin your turn and which actions you are allowed to take. These factions have special abilities, unique to each faction card. Currently, only one faction is available to the public, the "tournament" faction. It has been stated that a foiled version of this card may be given away as a prize at the impending Gen Con.
Players need to amass resource cards in order to play characters, tactics, items and locations. Players may drop any card from their hand face down as a resource, however, cards dropped in this manner will not count as having any resource icons, which are required in play to play cards. The resource icons come in the form of five trades, these trades are:
* Banker (Greed icon)
* Rogue (Deception icon)
* Warlord (Rage icon)
* Gearsmith (Elitism icon)
* Arcanist (Obsession icon)
Playable cards come in several types: characters, items, tactics, and locations. Each of these types often have subtypes.
