Through the Ages is a civilization building game. The goal is to develop your civilization, not to destroy other ones. Military strength is just one aspect of your nation, as well as population, production or science. It is up to you which aspect you will concentrate on, more or less, but you should not underestimate any of them while building your civilization."
Victory is achieved by the player whose nation produces the most culture during the game. However, there are many ways to produce culture: through religion, literature or drama, by building wonders, by utilizing cultural persons etc. Considerable amount of culture can be gained even via wars or aggression.

History
Originally announced as "Civilization: the card game" for Essen 2006, this game stirred up quite some interest. The designer publisher has intended this game to be a "CIV-lite". It has development, economics, war, and all the other elements you'll find in a civilization game, but in three hours play time.

Solo rules - Against the Barbarians
|
In this solo version of Through the Ages (TtA), you are a nascent empire, struggling to survive amidst the barbarian hordes. Unfortunately, the barbarians grow stronger over time, so you have to maintain a strong military to avoid extreme damage to your economy. Furthermore, you are only successful (as an empire) if you end the game with greater military strength than any single barbarian tribe; otherwise, you lose. This means that the military aspect of the game is vital - science-oriented strategies are risky. So, this is NOT the same as playing against other real players; but it works fairly well for me.
Also refer to the discussion thread for this variant: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/320034
v1.01: Updated to complete the missing information for Rule 7, "End of Age" events. My bad. (It's tough to proofread your own writings.) The missing info is nothing too startling though. (This version was downloaded 264 times).
v1.1: Now with improved formatting (easier to read), a fair number of updates, new optional rules, Acknowledgements and a Change Log section. Same old pesky Barbarians though.

TTA Save Game Sheet
|
4 players worth of information to "save" a game in progress of "Through the Ages".
The front is intended to track all the workers/resources/etc., and the back is optional if you want to track your cards in play. You will still need to pack up the game carefully to save everything, but this helps a lot for those monster TTA sessions!

Enlarged TTA player mats (all four colours) v1.0
|
Enlarged versions of the player mats supplied with the game - so moving the counters around on them is less fiddly. These versions have been enlarged only a modest amount (25%) which is enough to make them easier to use while not taking up too much table space.
Two-page .pdf file, with crop marks for cutting.

Culture Scoring Track Fix for 81-90
|
This file allows you to fix the scoring track for the missing culture spaces while waiting for new boards from the publisher. I used a peel and stick printer sheet. If you stick just inside (to the left) of the scoring track, there's a lot of room for these 10 spaces, although it will cover the "s" in "Ages". The board counts correctly to 80, then use these spaces up to 90, then back onto the normal board for 91-100.

Hholzgrafe's Aid on 2 pages for FRED's TTA
|
This is just an edited/reformatted version of Helen Holzgrafe's excellent aid: FRED 2-2008 Errata, Full Game Setup, and Rules Reminder Sheet (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/file/info/30465), which didn't easily fit on 2 pages for me. This version can be printed on one page (double-sided) and trimmed down to size.

FRED Tuckboxes.
|
I just wanted 4 boxes: A, I, II and III (I keep each player's starting setup cards, along with their bits, in baggies). The tuckbox.pdf file is included so you can see where to crease/cut, in case you can't tell from the pictures themselves. Score along the crease lines, THEN cut the boxes out and glue together.

|
New Final version.
Playmat for TtA that allows all production and population beads to be slid around on a single sheet instead of being transferred from card to card.
Some reference information included, and a single player mat is all thats needed for one player to begin as it replaces all starting cards.
