Description Edit | History

Power Grid is the updated release of the Friedemann Friese crayon game Funkenschlag. It removes the crayon aspect from network building in the original edition, while retaining the fluctuating commodities market like McMulti and an auction round intensity reminiscent of The Princes of Florence.

The object of Power Grid is to supply the most cities with power when someone's network gains a predetermined size. In this new edition, players mark pre-existing routes between cities for connection, and then bid against each other to purchase the power plants that they use to power their cities.

However, as plants are purchased, newer, more efficient plants become available, so by merely purchasing, you're potentially allowing others access to superior equipment.

Additionally, players must acquire the raw materials (coal, oil, garbage, and uranium) needed to power said plants (except for the 'renewable' windfarm/ solar plants, which require no fuel), making it a constant struggle to upgrade your plants for maximum efficiency while still retaining enough wealth to quickly expand your network to get the cheapest routes.

Power Grid FAQ - Please read this before posting a rules question! Many questions are asked over and over in the forums.

This entry is for the original Power Grid; for the new French printing by Filosofia, go to Mégawatts.

The expansions Power Grid - Italy/France, Power Grid - Benelux/Central Europe, Power Grid - Korea/China and Power Grid - Brazil/Spain & Portugal include new double-sided game boards. These change the game by not only changing the characteristics of the geography, but also by changing the rules for power plant availability, resource availability, tying plant ownership and/or resource availability and/or price to geographic regions on the map, etc.

6 Baltimore/Washington map
A map of the Baltimore/Washington Metropolitan Area. Coal is a significant fuel for BWMA. Plants randomly removed during setup cannot be Coal or Hybrid, and the resource track has been modified so that Coal is often very cheap, while Oil is often very expensive. The Chantilly-Reston-Potomac connections have been fixed.

9 Power Grid labels for DIY Elektro poker chips
Zip file contains Powerpoint templates for printing Avery 5410 1" round labels. There are ppt2007 and ppt'97 formats. There are a total of 9 sheets: a front and back label for each of 1 (green), 5 (black), 10 (blue), and 50 (red) Elektro. An extra sheet has the template or making the front label, in case you want to change the denomination or border color. My finished set of chips: http://boardgamegeek.com/image/601539 These were inspired by TheEngineer: http://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/48548, and by stoobush http://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/45932
