Description Edit | History

From the Publisher:

Hive is a highly addictive strategic game for two players that is not restricted by a board and can be played anywhere on any flat surface. Hive is made up of twenty two pieces, eleven black and eleven white, resembling a variety of creatures each with a unique way of moving.

With no setting up to do, the game begins when the first piece is placed down. As the subsequent pieces are placed this forms a pattern that becomes the playing surface (the pieces themselves become the board). Unlike other such games, the pieces are never eliminated and not all have to be played. The object of the game is to totally surround your opponent's queen, while at the same time trying to block your opponent from doing likewise to your queen. The player to totally surround his opponent's queen wins the game.

The first edition and second edition of this game had wooden hexes with full-color stickers applied to their tops, while the third edition has bakelite pieces with single-color outlines of the insects imprinted on them.

9 HIVE Dragonfly rules English+German incl. printable sticker
The HIVE dragonfly is an unofficial expansion for HIVE. The dragonfly has a tricky movement and the ability to transport other beetles under special circumstances! It can also be played together with the mosquito. Creating your dragonfly sticker: Print the sheet out and cut away the section with the dragonfly hex-tile graphics. Put a transparent self-adhesive foil on the frontside of the graphics and a double sided self-adhesive foil on the back of the sheet. Then cut the shapes out and fix them on your tiles. I recommend to fix them on the back of a second set of mosquitos. Attention: The bakelit tiles have round shaped edges on which you can`t fix the stickers properly, so you have to make the stickers smaller than the maximum size of the bakelit tile. You have to cut...

4 Child Friendly Hive Bugs VS1
The bugs on the bakelite tiles seemed too icky to us. To bad, because I really like the bakelite tiles a lot. These bugs are more child friendly. I made hexes out of 6/8" (17mm) hex nuts using Sculpey pushed into the middle (Image #329769) and then Mod Podged the pictures on top. These are only to be used to make a child friendly version of Hive and should not be used to get out of buying the regular set.
