Description Edit | History

International Game Series game from Multi-Man Publishing (MMP).

From the MMP website:

This is the game that made Tetsuya Nakamura famous. As you have seen from MMP’s Fire in the Sky and from MMP's A Victory Lost, Nakamura provides a unique insight into military history. MMP is proud to present what is widely considered to be his finest effort. Instead of providing a broad overview of Feudal Japan, A Most Dangerous Time focuses in on the most dire moment of all: 1570-1584. Oda Nobunaga, the most notorious figures in Japanese history, fights against all of Japan and the victor will be the ultimate master of all of Japan.

Using a unique system, Nakamura provides a simulation of this period that is one of the most profound ever made. Don't miss this one. It is one of the great game experiences of our hobby.

A Most Dangerous Time contains:

  • 1 22" x 34" map
  • 440 5/8" counters
  • 28 page rulebook
  • 110 "poker quality" cards
  • Dice

A Most Dangerous Time details:

  • Players: 2 (3-4 player variant)
  • Complexity: medium
  • Playing Time: 4 -20 hours

A Most Dangerous Time scale:

  • Game Turn: bi-annual
  • Counters: Individual leaders and 1000 men per strength point
  • Map: point-to-point

IMPORTANT ERRATA FOR THE START OF PLAY!!!!

1. The setup in the rules (p. 21) and the cards has an extra Asakura soldier in the setup. The counters are correct - there are 9 soldiers and Yoshikage start in Asakura.

2. There are 8 Tokugawa units and 2 Matsunaga units that are missing their blood mark for betrayal. These need to be put to the side and are not part of the setup of the game.

3. If there is more than one combat, the non-active Alliance decides the order in which to resolve combat. (p. 12)

4. If a Daimyo betrays to the other faction, he NEVER takes his entire clan with him. All Daimyos who betray follow the same rules as Samurai who betray.

Additional support for the game can be found in the A Most Dangerous Time Forum at CSW. Specifically, the Errata as of 6/13/2009 and the Clarifications as of 6/13/2009 are linked to from the CSW folder header.

I created this slideshow presentation to help me learn and teach AMDT. (I used this to teach my gf AMDT and we were up and running after going thru the slideshow once...of course I had to provide a bit of elaboration)

3 AMDT short game victory tiles.
Print on card & laminate. Cut out tiles. In the short game the Oda faction takes a tile for each level 2/3 castle/temple space owned. Easier than counting up for victory purposes.

8 Home-made Promoted Daimyo (from Samurai) Counters for your use
Daimyo pictured sides for promoted samurai. Daimyo chits, therefore, will no longer needed in the game. You can either glue the daimyo picture side to the opposite side of the corresponding samurai so that you need only flip them over when the are promoted (except for the 2 Takeda samurai..don't do that with them, leave those counters alone. Create 2 new counters with the Takeda Daimyo and corresponding betrayal daimyo on the other side and replace the samurai counters with these instead of flipping the counter over) or You can create new counters altogether with these pictured sides and replace the samurai with one of these when he is promoted to daimyo. UPDATE- INCLUDES FORGOTTEN AZAI NAGAMASA

3 AMDT Card Manifest
Some collate errors on the cards are popping up. Check your cards against the manifest to verify you have them all. If something is missing, email MMP at problems@multimanpublishing.com to get it fixed. Any troubles, of course just let me know. Adam

21 AMDT Expanded Sequence of play
I created this as an exercise to help myself learn the rules. It is more detailed than the one in the rulebook, hopefully you will find it helpful while playing the game.
