Description Edit | History

GridIron Master is a new strategy football-based board game. The game combines the strategic elements of football with the disciplines and patterns of chess.

The game play takes place on a wooden 'exact-to-scale' football field.

Both American football or Canadian football versions are available. The size of the field and rules differ depending on the version.

Player pieces are plastic pegs are shaped like football helmets. The football snaps on top of the pieces. Each football position is mapped to a corresponding chess position and the piece is allowed to maneuver accordingly.

Each football play is conducted as a miniature chess game, seamlessly integrating the strategies of both activities.

The "kicking game" is conducted by rolling the "football shaped" dice. The yardage or turnout is given by a look-up sheet which was compiled from years of actual football statistical information.

1 Player Reference Card 4x6
A player reference card for GridIron Master that can be printed on the Front and Back of a 4x6 note card. This card summarizes the rules for Offensive and Defensive Formations. Lays out the beginning play sequences of a down. A condensed and hopefully more concise breakout of the rules for piece interaction between the offensive and defensive pieces depending on field location. With this card I also completely distilled the Rules of Engagement to 7 rules that should cover most of the possible situations that would arise in the game. If there are errors please let me know. Note: Two house rules are noted in purple, plus one rule modification. For an explanation of the rules changes look at this post http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/421130. The rules in this file are not copied directly from the rulebook they are summarizes only and the rulebook was used only as a guideline. ERRORS with previous Versions: (Have been fixed in Version 5) Version 2. Under Defensive formation rules 2 Outside Linebackers are not required in the defense. It should read 1 Defensive Back is required. Version 4. Required pieces for the defense should be noted as 5 to 7 NOT 6 to 8. The Beginning play sequence go to statements should point to step 7 not 8. Both of these versions have been removed from BGG. Please let me know if there are any other errors or corrections necessary.
