Description Edit | History

Machiavelli recreates the historical situation of the fast developing and ever shifting balance of power struggle in Renaissance Italy. There are five major powers: The Republics of Florence and Venice, the Duchy of Milan, the Kingdom of Naples and the Papacy (which was a secular power in this era) along with 3 major foreign powers: Valois France, Hapsburg Austria and the Ottoman Turks. All of these states singly or in combination compete for control of the peninsula.

Expanded by:
Alea Magazine nº22 contained seven new scenarios for Machiavelli.

USTP Machiavelli Judge is a site for Machiavelli game play supporting the "nJudge" software for PBEM game play. A game can be set up by any registered user. There must always be one GM in addition to the players.

The 1995 edition has the following counter mix...

Each of the 8 powers has 12 army, 8 fleet, 4 garrison, 7 assassination counters; Total 8 x 31 = 248

Control counters are divided into two types, home control (hc, "flags") and province control (pc), and differ in number between powers.

Naples has 8 hc and 14 pc counters. Turkey has SIX hc, 8 pc; Venice 8 hc, 14 pc; Papacy 7 hc, 11 pc; Austria 8 hc, 14 pc; Florence FOUR hc, 10 pc; Milan 6 hc, 8 pc; and France 5 hc, 9 pc. Total 140

There are also 8 rebellion, 15 famine, 17 autonomous garrison counters and 80 ducats. Total 120

The 80 ducats are distributed as:
1 ducat: 15
2 ducat: 15
3 ducat: 20
5 ducat: 20
10 ducat: 10

Total counters is 248 + 140 + 120 + 12 blanks = 520

The 1980 edition has the following counter mix...

All 8 powers have 12 army, 8 fleet, 6 garrison, 7 assassination and 12 (blank colored) control counters
There are also 20 rebellion, 20 famine and 40 autonomous garrison counters;
And finally 40 one ducat counters, 20 five ducat, 10 ten ducat, 7 twenty ducat and 3 fifty ducat

Total counters are (12+8+6+7+12)*8+20+20+40+40+20+10+7+3 = 520

Battleline has 616 counters (including blanks)
