Description

[Edit] [History]

You are specialists at the CDC/Atlanta where you watch several virulent diseases break out simultaneously all over the world. The team mission is to prevent a world-wide pandemic outbreak, treating hotspots while researching cures for each of the four plagues before they get out of hand.

Players must plan their strategy to mesh their specialist's strengths before the diseases overwhelm the world. For example, the Operations Specialist can build research stations, which are needed to find cures for the diseases. The Scientist needs only 4 cards of a particular disease to cure it instead of the normal 5. But the diseases are breaking out fast and time is running out: the team must try to stem the tide of infection in diseased areas while developing cures. If disease spreads uncontrolled, the players all lose. If they can cure all four diseases, they win.

The board shows earth with some big population centres. On each turn a player can use four actions to travel, cure, discover and build. Cards are used for this but the deck also contains Epidemics...

0 Disease Explanation Artwork for Pandemic
Pandemic.zip
I don't think I was alone in finding the diseases in Pandemic a bit, well, a bit abstract. I like to think I'm saving the world from Hideous Running Face Disease rather than the terrors of the 'Blue' disease. Ah, no keep the 'Yellow' disease away from me! Still the game is a good one so instead of wimping on the problem I resolved to do something about it, and put these together at the weekend. They are A5 in size but a bit low res due to BBG's restrictions. If anyone is a print geek too and wants the hi-res files let me know and I'll email them to you. Apologies to any scientists or polyglots out there - all this is a work of my imagination and I am too lazy to do any research so there will be glaring errors to the initiated in these disciplines. However, if you let me know (nicely!) I will happily knock up a version 1.01 with amendments. I put some thought into doing some child-friendly diseases too - Red Nose Syndrome, Blue Hair, that kind of thing, but ran out of energy. If there is support for this idea then I will, again let me know. And I hope you like them!
