Description Edit | History

Preußische Ostbahn is the second game in Winsome's Historic Railroads System and was initially released at Essen 2008 and was reprinted in January 2010. Queen Games is scheduled to release this game in July 2011 as "German Railways", which will be the first in their Iron Horse collection.
The Queen Games version will have considerably improved components, and the rules will not be modified from those of the original release.

Harry Wu's Preußische Ostbahn builds upon the system established in Chicago Express, and takes the game series to Germany, 1840-1870. Preußische Ostbahn (Prussian Eastern Railroad in English) introduces an innovative new Player Order mechanism to the system.

In addition, each Railroad now has a special characteristic, based upon its history:

  • Preußische Ostbahn - May build up to 4 track; 20 black track; Königsberg start.
  • Niederschlesische - No City Penalty; 17 brown track; Breslau start.
  • Sächsische - May build up to 2 track; 11 orange track; Leipzig start.
  • Bayerische - Track cost -1 per hex; 16 blue track; München start.
  • Main-Weser - Double one City Income; 14 yellow track; Kassel start.
  • Badische - One free rural track/build; 15 red track; Mannheim start.
  • Köln-Mindener - $5 maximum expediture/build; 12 purple track; Essen start.
  • Berlin-Hamburger - Must connect both to receive Dividends; 13 green track; Wittenberge start.

Preußische Ostbahn is a German Family Game.

RULES ERRATA:

In the "Build Track" section of the Queen rules (top of page 6) is a glaring contradiction, where one bullet states:
"Urban (city) hexes may have multiple locomotives in the hexagon" and the next states:
"Only one railroad may build track in plains, mountains, hills and Berlin Approach zone hexagons."

This is contradictory, as urban (city) hexes are located in plains, mountains and hills. The second bullet should state:
"Only one railroad may build track in rural (non-city) hexes."

This also applies to the Großherzoglich Badischen Staatseisenbahnen special ability. It should state:
"The Badische may place one rural track (of its 3 allowed track) per Expansion for free."

Another error was the omission of the terrain type of Berlin and the Berlin Approaches. They are plains hexes.

7 German Railways Succinct Player Aid v1
German Railways Succinct Player Aid v1 Each sheet of 4 player aids/sheet includes: --special characteristics of railroads and number of trains --setup need to know --available actions per turn --build limitations --dividends --game end conditions The only things I don't go into are how to determine number of discs/player to add to the bag draw and how many discs to pull. I only note "bag draw." This mechanic seems central enough to the game that players are unlikely to forget it. If you think it's important that I fit these items in (likely losing the header), please let me know.
