Naval tactical warfare in the Age of Sail, 1740-1815
Close Action is all about teamwork and out-maneuvering one's enemy by coordinating the movements of a fleet of wooden ships. You plot movement for your ships, send signals to your friendly captains, and assign crew to various tasks such as changing sails or firing the great guns. Played on a hex grid, the ships move fairly accurately and historic battles can be recreated with lots of realism. This games scales extremely well, playing as well if not better with 20 players as with 3, 4 or 5.
The two additional volumes come in the form of scenario books and depict battles from different major conflicts. The core rules provided in the original game box are needed to play these scenarios.
These optional rules by Albert Parker help players simulate the circumstances in which in which Age of Sail fleets would disengage from a battle. The offer a historical alternative to the "last ship floating" method of resolving battles. Permission for upload was given by the author.
A ship's log with a nautical theme to it. Why, you can almost taste the sea spray!
(this version has corrected hull and crew boxes; earlier versions had only 3 columns for these)
