Leader 1, the legend of cycling, is a cycling race simulation by Ghenos games.
In each of the 5 teams there are different types of cyclists: 1 rouleur, 1 climber and 1 leader. Different tracks can be arranged with the hexagons reproducing different types of routes: plain, ground rise, mountain pass and downhill.
Every cyclist enjoys the benefits of a free base movement which varies according to his specialty and according to the hexagon at the beginning of his movement. After this kind of movement every racer can add a paying movement. Therefore, the race is based on the riders’ energy management: initially the riders are all inside the peloton, where it is easier to save energy, but then they will have to find the proper moment to break away to open the definitive gap ahead of the peloton.
The slipstreaming rule assures the simulation of the easier breaking away with a fellow, saving energy by swapping places. Cracks, falls and punctures make the simulation more complete.
Leader 1 has a simple yet fascinating mechanism: players decide the placement and energy management of their riders, facing all the elements of a “classic” or “stage” race.

LEGSTRONG

A "Leader 1 Legend of cycling" variant.
It's a variant for doping, a awkward subject in cycling.
Many would like doping did not exist, but like they say of Galician "meigas" (whitches): "Haberlas, haylas".
If this subject is too crude for you, please don't download the file.
The name of the file is lame joke, but could as well be called "Intherain" or whatever pun you prefer.

Leader 2 rules
|
|
Yes, you read correctly: by now the set of rules me and my group are using is so different from the original ones that it would be almost misleading to use "Leader 1" in the title :)
How have we ever gotten so far? We liked the game a lot from day 1, but were disappointed by some of its mechanics causing the races to resemble the real ones rather poorly, while offering very few strategic options. After lots of brainstorming and then testing, we finally arrived to this set of rules, which seems to play out nicely for all kinds of routes, while not being too complex. Enjoy!
As a bonus, a separate section of comments, where I discuss the motivation and real-life examples behind the new rules. Also, a bunch of concepts we have invented from scratch in order to make the game more versatile or realistic:
Appendix 1: additional concepts
Appendix 2: cobbled races
Appendix 3: individual time trials
Appendix 4: team time trials
Appendix 5: other classifications in stage races
Appendix 6: simulating real races
Appendix 7: peloton AD 2009

Leader 1 - Pimp My Ride cards+tokens
|
|
The use of pen and paper to track riders' expert abilities, risk and energy is a bit annoying, fiddly and off-putting to some players, so I have made a set of printable cards and tokens which can be used instead of the player sheets. Slipstream tokens are also included to keep track of slipstreaming riders.
This version 2 file replaces the previous expert tokens with rider cards for downhill and sprint expert riders as well as for standard riders. Each colour coded rider/expert card includes all the movement details for that type of rider/expert on the different types of terrain. General game turn and movement rules summary cards are also included.

These are 42 jpeg files representing both sides of all tiles. Starting from here, spend 5 minutes in photoshop and you can change it all: replace colours to have more than 100 different tiles to choose from, merge them to have a digital representation of the races you create etc.

This tour has as a 1st stage time trial of 7 miles. For this game this stage have no interest. I tried the route chart and adaptation to the Leader 1 as close as possible to reality.
