Description Edit | History

"A game of Nuclear Confrontation". One player plays the Soviet Union and the other the United States. Each player invests in nuclear weapons technology, world "crisis" regions, and nuclear and anti-nuclear weapons (Missiles, Bombers, SSBNs, Interceptors, and ABMs). Units are deployed on the board, leaving some vulnerable to "first strike" nuclear attacks. Crisis areas are won by allocating factors to them and causing a confrontation in which each player picks a warfare type (Tac-Nuc, Conventional, Guerrilla, Political/Social, or Economic). Players may decide to launch a direct nuclear attack on the the other player, attempting to destroy the enemy cities with missiles or bombers while defending his own with ABMs and interceptors. Victory is determined partly by how much population a player has left after a nuclear war, and partly by how much enemy population has been destroyed and/or crisis regions won.

1 Variable damage markers
Here's an idea. Instead of using the defense strength values for cities printed on the map, make it so each population point needs 4 attack points to destroy it. Then use the various denominations of markers to show damage to each city. The printed population point value is the maximum damage to the hex. Defense strength for all other targets in the game remains the same.

2 New counters for Ultimatum
Mostly counters from magazine variants drawn up nicely. Added TU-4 and B-50 for 1950s scenarios. They would be flying one-way missions. Counters with underlined speed values are short range. They can only go a maximum of 10 hexes from their start hex. Let B-47s enter from western edge of map. The U-2 can be used in campaign games to uncover inverted Soviet units. It may be attacked by interceptors and SAMs. If shot down, give the USSR player a 10MP bonus in Europe. F-86s represent early 50s American air defense.
