The Hammer of Thor: The Game of Norse Mythology (1980)

Probably the most comprehensive mythology game ever made, certainly about Norse myths. There are 365 cards, each one a different character from Norse mythology (which is why the game says that 365 people can play!)

Play evolves along two phases: adventures in the wilderness to gather forces for Ragnarok, the final battle between good and evil. The player who is on the winning side of this battle who has the highest Reputation wins the game. Beyond the 365 character cards, there are card sets representing Offspring, Shape Changing, Magic Items, Forged Magic Items, Fates, Runes, and Predictions. There is also a color map, sheets of charts, sheets for character tracking, counters and a rulebook.

There were at least three editions of the game:

1. Publisher listed as Gameshop, blank box bottom, the cards (except for Agility Loss) come pre-separated, the map (which is dark) is in three pieces, and there are no leader action cards.

2. This edition has the same dark map as in the first edition, but it is a single piece of paper. It is otherwise similar to the first edition, although the box bottom may not be blank and the publisher name might have changed.

3. Publisher listed as Nova Game Designs, box bottom definitely not blank, the cards are in perforated sheets, the map is much lighter in color, there are leader action cards, and the rulebook has a components manifest.
