Description:
In the year 42BCE, a mysterious magical force was unleashed upon an unsuspecting world. The miasmic shockwave of pure otherworldly magic spread outward from a point somewhere in the middle east, and in a few short hours plunged the entire globe into chaos. In those terrible moments, human civilization changed forever.

Magic infused their very bones, manifested in their children, came unbidden to the fingertips of their women, and plagued their countryside in uncontrolled bursts of power. Ordinary beasts of the wilderness were turned by these bursts into fanciful creatures of legend. Entire tribes of humans from all corners of the world were altered by the flood of uncontrolled magic, changing before the very eyes of their friends and neighbors into elves, dwarves, orcs, trolls, centaurs, and even minotaurs. Creatures that normally existed between our reality and others were shunted into this one, leaving ghosts, faeries, and other magical creatures stranded in our world in ways they were never intended to be. Even remnants of the Old World, gods of the ancients and their ken, were awakened from their immortal slumber through this great cataclysm to trouble mankind once more.

The world had changed forever.

The year is now 37BCE and the middle-east sits at the center of a vast struggle to control humanity’s fate. Three powerful nations have harnessed the power unleashed by the day of chaos, and they struggle to claim dominance over the known world. Their arcane legions are now yours to control.

Gameplay:
If you ever wondered what happened to the guys from WizKids just take a look at this game and you will know what they have been doing with the downtime after WizKids closed their doors.

Players each field "bases" of variable sizes (Sortie/small and Formation/large) with individual figures inserted into starting positions on the base. The goal is to control victory point areas and inflict losses on the opponent. Movement and battle resolution are conducted through a unique formation management mechanic that allows players to move figures around on the unit bases to increase either movement/melee/ranged combat at the cost of losing capabilities in the other areas.

Currently wrapping up playtesting as of May 2009. Arcane Legions will be available in September of 2009. Initially, look for 3 different factions (Egyptians, Romans, and Han Dynasty).

Figures are highly detailed true 25mm made from PVC 105. Common figures are unpainted with colored tempo prints on banners and shields, while all the uncommon, rare and Commander figures (Booster Pack contents) are fully pre-painted. The game is designed to use both types. There are 9 different unpainted common figures for each faction and at least 20 different fully painted premium figures for each faction. If you buy a legion bundle of a faction you receive around 70 prepainted figures, whereas buying one of each army pack gets you about 54 unpainted figures.

With more than 110 figures, the Starter Pack includes small armies for all three factions and enough formation bases, sortie bases and base cards for a complete two player game - all for $34.99

The Army Packs contain 40 common soldiers - $14.99

The Cavalry Packs contain 15 mounted figures - $14.99

The Booster Packs contain 5-10 (depending on the size) Leader / special figures and their associated base cards, plus five additional formation base cards for use with figures from the Army and Cavalry Packs - $11.99

All Arcane Legions products (with the exception of the Starter) can be purchased faction specific.

COLLECTING ANOTHER VICTORY

Innovative Mass Action Miniatures Game to Revolutionize Tabletop Gaming

May 15, 2009 (SEATTLE) -— Wells Expeditions, a new company started by the founding members of WizKids Inc., announces the upcoming release of the Arcane Legions collectable mass action miniatures game.

A tableful of miniature soldiers involved in epic combat that can take two to six players through a full military engagement in less than two hours was once unthinkable. The team of veteran game-makers at Wells Expeditions, who created classic games like HeroClix®, MechWarrior® and Pirates of the Spanish Main, are thrilled to turn that pipe dream into yet another brilliant idea: Arcane Legions.

With experience and a close relationship with retailers and consumers in the marketplace, Wells Expeditions has carefully designed an affordable game that removes all of the entry-obstacles of traditional miniatures games. Arcane Legions features straightforward rules, quick setup and an affordable collectable model. The game is set in a mysterious alternative history where the Roman Empire, Egyptian Imperium and Han Dynasty are all drawing upon mythical creatures and powerful armies to dominate a world in chaos.

The engaging Arcane Legions platform uses an intuitive and flexible formation-base system to command hordes of troops. Arrange and rearrange figures within a unit to change the unit’s capabilities. Movement and combat is fast and deadly, using an abstracted movement system and a simple dice-off combat mechanic. With three distinct factions that can be purchased separately, players can collect exactly the figures they want. Arcane Legions eliminates the need for cumbersome tape measurements and record-keeping.

In this economy, it’s difficult to entice new customers into stores - never mind into a new collectable game. Arcane Legions was designed to keep the number of products that need to be stocked and purchased to a minimum by making figures available by faction and offering a two-player Starter Game with more than 110 figures, plus rules, dice, bases and unit cards. Common figures have been removed from randomized Booster Packs and placed into fixed Cavalry and Infantry Army Packs, and sets have been made intentionally small to make collecting even easier. In fact, a player can buy a Legion Bundle, eight faction-specific Boosters, and get every collectable figure in that faction - guaranteed! Keeping a player’s investment low and their enjoyment level high makes Arcane Legions the ideal miniatures game.

Wells Expeditions knows that a community of players is key to growing a game, and so is supporting Arcane Legions with an extensive in-store play program and a website that not only connects players but also allows players to do the unthinkable: design their own tournament-legal game elements - a first in the collectable game genre.

Arcane Legions releases in September, but you can get an earlier look by visiting http://www.arcanelegions.com. Wells Expeditions will be demonstrating the game at Origins Game Fair June 24 - 28, and prerelease product will be on hand at Gen Con Indy August 13 - 16.

This excel file contains average results from simulations of a straight up Arcane Legions roll with different attack and defense die. A chance to crit table is included on the second tab. I am planning on expanding simulations with specials in the future if there is interest. Enjoy.

7 Arcane Legions Cheat Sheet
Hi guys Please find attached a 'cheat sheet' I have made for me and my buddies to use when we are playing. It is made using slices from the rulebook, and own text etc... - to what i think is a fairly decent standard. This is a 'version 1.0' kinda thing - and if you like it please reply, feel free to make suggestions, pick it to pieces etc... Its there for us all to use :) Hope this helps... Dave

6 Arcane Legions Unit Inventory and Army Creation Tool
I updated the file that cuzzle was so kind as to develop and post with a couple missing unit cards, additional figures and corrected a couple transpositions. Thank you cuzzle for designing a great file.

4 Storage Box Identification Guide
I created a storage guide so you can quickly identify your figures to take out and put back. I used the Field & Stream 370 Utility Box which is sold in a 3-pack for a reasonable price at Dick's Sporting Goods. The guide has plenty of room for expansion figures.
