Space Empires is a game in the finest tradition of 4X space games - eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate. Each player builds up a space empire and uses it to conquer the other players. Exploration on the mounted map is simple for players (and dangerous for their ships), revealing different space terrain that affects movement and combat.
Space Empires was developed to keep a rich theme without overcomplicated rules. The game includes carriers and fighters, mines, cloaking, a very large technology tree, fifteen ship classes, merchant shipping, colonization, mining, terraforming, bases, shipyards, black holes, warp points, and non-player aliens. Yet the rules are short and intuitive: The basic rules are 8 pages long and increase to 11 pages in length when the advanced rules are included.
A 1-page scenario you may use to introduce the game to new players. It is a revision of the short Doomsday scenario, but uses fleets of ships instead of a Doomsday machine to help new players understand varations of fleets, 2:1 bonuses, and how colonies get attacked.
If you are helping a new player, you can control the ships, and change what the fleets are for balance if it is too easy/difficult.

Space Empires 4x Pocket Rules. No need for entire reference sheets. Just these cards & an economic sheet. Common rules can avoid rulebook lookups.
Let me know if you want red/blue/yellow/green bgs for them.
I put the rolls first, then values, then fleet launch to give it a more "left to right" feel. Removed the "extra econ" roll for simplicity, but you can still use it if you want to.
The second page has a mini reference in hopes of not having to have the scenario book in the way anymore after setup.

Excel spreadsheet for Space Empires and PDF help file. This Macro-Enabled spreadsheet automates almost all of the paperwork involved in the game. It has a tab for Production tracking and one for Ship Stats. The tabs are linked so when a new ship group is created it is automatically assigned the current technology levels. The spreadsheet also prevents a player from building ships until the correct ship size technology has been researched.
