Description Edit | History

Dungeon in a Tin is a solo or cooperative dungeon-hack. Players descend into a dungeon randomly laid-out from a stack of tiles, fighting through the orc and goblin hordes to rescue the kidnapped maiden and collect treasure and glory.

Each player takes turns to move through the dungeon one tile at a time, laying new tiles as unexplored areas are entered; every time a player enters a room, special monster dice are rolled to determine the enemies faced and the potential loot to be found. When a monster attacks, a die is rolled to determine the style of their attack; the player then chooses a card from his hand to counter with, each card being strong against some kinds of attack and weak against others.

The ultimate goal of the game is for the players to fight their way to the bottom of the dungeon to rescue the captured maiden - and then fight their way out with her. The dungeon will become harder to fight through as the player delves deeper, and then harder still on the way out with a helpless rescuee in tow.

This Print-and-Play game was an entry in the 'One Full-sheet Label' design contest here on BGG, and as such the printed components fit entirely on a single label sheet. A small number of other tokens and blank dice will also be required. Additionally, as the name hints, once constructed on cardstock it is possible to fit the game inside an Altoids tin or similar.

5 Large DIAT Parts
Here are larger components. The tiles have no letters. The red skulls indicate the "B" tiles. The tiles have yellow skulls instead of white. The keyholes have been filled with a gradient. The cards now have backs. The treasure is separated by color, so different colored card stock can be used for the backs. The treasure tracker has an overlay so that it will hold treasures and a heart gem in place. It's also been modified to fit a heart gem from the hobby store. Posted with permission from Jake Staines. Thank you again, Mr Staines.

4 Single page box for Dungeon in a Tin
A small, single page (A4 - but will presumably work for letter) box, for those whose DiaT build will not fit in an altoids tin. Mine will not, because it has many of the components mounted on greyboard/chipboard.

20 Dungeon in a Tin Unofficial Rules
These rules are complete and the result of numerous plays. I added more decisions. I balanced the game, making it harder to die if the correct decisions are made. I added a new goal to the game. I made new tile rules to make the dungeon more varied from game to game. These rules lengthen the time it takes to complete a game. I have attempted to leave no loopholes which guarantee easy success. I look forward to your feedback. These rules are posted with permission from the game's author, Jake Staines. Thank you, Mr. Staines, for an enjoyable journey.
