1st & Goal pits two football teams in a classic gridiron match. Players call plays using the cards available in their hands. Yardage gained or lost is determined by a roll of the dice, and strategic play-calling makes all the difference as to which dice you get to roll for each play. The right offensive play might gain you a lot of yardage – unless the defense sets up correctly to stop it. After that, it all comes down to the roll of the dice...
Fumbles, interceptions, sacks, penalties, deep passes, breakaway runs – it's all here. 1st & Goal comes with three Running Dice, three Passing Dice, a Defense Die, a Play Die, a Referee Die, and a Penalty Die. The card decks include 60 Offense cards and 60 Defense cards. Six "division" packs, each with four unique DFL (Dice Football League) expansion teams, are sold separately.
This same chart adds the optional d20 dice for kickoffs & punts as taken from the R&R website. The idea being that it balances specialty teams better when using expansion dice.
This is an Excel file with all the values for all the dice for all the expansions. The first tab is colorized as a 'heat map' with red being bad values gradient to green values which are the best for a given dice color. The second tab is the non-colorized version. The third tab is a value comparison chart of average Running, Passing, and Defensive dice (Note: This is not the same as the charts on the back of the boxes.) The fourth tab is the Special Teams values. For any given type of special team roll, the Min, Average, and Max values for each team are listed. These are things like Punt, Field Goals, etc.
Note: Do NOT sort the 'All Dice' (colorized) tab or it will change all the calculations on the other tabs incorrectly. You can safely sort the other three tabs if you want. All...
After an extended discussion with friends comparing DFL teams to NFL teams, I put together this Excel file that I hope may prove useful to those who have the game. It is an Excel file that contains a chart of the NFL 2011 regular season team rankings as well as DFL team rankings.(Minus the base set team) I've also included a pair of drag down lists that allow you to compare NFL to DFL rankings and DFL to DFL rankings.
I took all the images of the back of the boxes from the BGG gallery. I zoomed in about 700% and then counted the length of each bar for Defense, Running, and Passing in pixels*. This gives a quantitative way to compare the stats of each time in the DFL. This is an Excel file so you can sort it on whatever column you want.
* The images aren't the highest resolution so a couple of the numbers might be off by 1. The scale is based on the length of the bar at the bottom which is 76 pixels long. The "Base" team is the one included in the base game. It's assumed to be all average which is 38. I included it for reference.
