Tim Kirk (I) the artist, is credited with the cover and character illustrations for the SPI 1977 board game War of the Ring.
Kirk received a bachelor's degree in fine arts with an emphasis in commercial art and a later a master's degree in illustration from California State University, Long Beach, where his thesis project was a series of illustrations for The Lord of the Rings. He won the Hugo Award for Best Fan Artist in 1970, 1972, 1973, 1974, and in 1976 and has sat on the advisory board of the Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame. He has also been freelance illustrator for children's books.

Tim Kirk (II) the game designer who created Hearts & Souls, and has credits in U.S.E.R's Most Wanted, Cartoon Action Hour, and others is a distinct individual who creates games, but does not produce professional art. He is not related to the artist (I).
