Hugh Charles McBarron, Jr. (October 3, 1902 - April 21, 1992) was a popular American artist who was born and lived most of his life in Chicago. He began painting military subjects in the 1930s and typically hid an illustration of himself in his paintings. Moreover, this painting style helped inspire British artist Martin Handford to create the Where's Wally? series of children's books. As a commercial artist even once used himself as the model for Captain Midnight which was developed in his hometown of Chicago.
