Ferdinand Victor Eugène Delacroix (April 26, 1798 - August 13, 1863) was a French artist who was regarded from the outset of his career as the leader of the French Romantic school. As a lithographer, he illustrated various works of William Shakespeare and Sir Walter Scott.
His 1830 painting Liberty Leading the People is quite popular and may have even inspired the building of the Statue of Liberty in New York City.
His paintings The Combat of the Giaour and Hassan and The Combat of the Giaour and Hassan have been used as art pieces in versions of classic board game Masterpiece.
