Cándido López (1840 - December 31, 1902) was an Argentine painter and soldier. Born in Buenos Aires, he is considered one of Argentina's most important artists. He is famous for his detailed illustrations of the battles of the War of the Triple Alliance, the war in which he lost his right arm which prompted him to learn how to paint with his left hand. He became an accomplished artist by the age of 17 and previously was a student of exiled Italian artist Baldassare Verazzi.
His painting of the Battle of Tuyuti was used as the cover artwork for the game War of the Triple Alliance: Paraguay - 1865-1870, although alternative cover art appears to feature Francisco Solano López on a horse.
This artist is one of the Famous (non-game) Artists on the Geek.
