Edward Lear (1812 - 1888)
Edward Lear was most famous for popularising the limerick, for writing "The Owl and the Pussycat went to sea in a beautiful pea-green boat" and for writing his nonsense books. He was also an illustrator which is a little less well-known.
His work was the subject of a special edition of Snap Cards, published by The Royal Academy of Arts in London.
