Description Edit | History

Diamino was invented by Madame Rousseau, born Madeleine Janssens, who asked for a patent in November 1935 for this set of letters. Patent No. 809,850 was issued to her in December 1936 under the name "Nouveau jeu de société".

Summary of the patent by the inventor: "The invention relates to a new board game formed by a combination of two known games, the game of dominoes for the form and the game known as crosswords and it has a number of letters (vowels and consonants) whose number is determined by using more or less letters in the language. Each letter comes with an exponent from 9 to 1, which is used for all possible combinations regarding gambling and following all rules that we fix at the beginning of the game
The squares or dominoes are preferably made of plastic, but they can also be made into cards or cartons and have even the appearance of cards."

The name of the game "Diamino" is a registered trademark in 1935 by Madame Rousseau itself. This word does not appear in the patent.

The iconography of the first boxes of Diamino course corresponds to the brand.
