Harold Stirling Vanderbilt (July 6, 1884 in Oakdale, New York - July 4, 1970) is credited with being the game designer who developed the game Bridge by coming up with the scoring system where contract bridge supplanted auction bridge. As a member of the famous American Vanderbilt family, he was also a railroad executive and a champion yachtsman. In 1993, he was posthumously elected to the America's Cup Hall of Fame.
He was the great-grandson of Cornelius Vanderbilt, the shipping tycoon who has been featured in a few railroad games.
