Piet Hein, also known as Kumbel Kumbell, (December 16, 1905 - April 17, 1996) was a Copenhagen-born Danish puzzle and game designer, scientist, mathematician, inventor, and author.
Among others he invented the game Hex, Tactix (aka Bulo or Nimbi) and the soma cube.
Hein received an honorary doctorate from Yale University in 1972. He was a direct descendant of Piet Pieterszoon Hein, the the 17th century Dutch naval hero. He died in Funen, Denmark, in 1996.
