Thomas Colthurst, Ph.D. is a Software Engineer at Google. He was previously Scientist at BBN Technologies from 1997 to 2007 where he specialized in large vocabulary, conversational telephone speech (CTS). He holds a B.Sc. from Brown University and a Ph.D. from MIT, both in mathematics. His Ph.D. thesis was Multidimensional Wavelets.
Before designing Barons, Thomas designed several award-losing games, including 1970: The Battle for Kent State, the controversial Snakes & Lagers: The World’s First Drinking Game for Children, and Bad, Bad Octopus. He was last seen on stage in the role of Marley, in the Benjamin Franklin Elementary School’s production of A Christmas Carol. Thomas now lives in Somerville, MA with his wife, daughter, and extensive collection of flavored Tang packets from around the world. [from the Barons rulebook]
