The major feature of the new edition is a complete reorganization of the rules. Every effort was to make the rules as play friendly as possible. Related information that was scattered throughout the 12th Anniversary Edition are now consolidated. Repeated information is removed and cross referencing is used instead. The rich background information has been taken out of the rules proper and end noted.

There was a little re-working of the rules, perhaps the most notable being an incremental approach to snow rather than the massive dumping of weight. Parachutes, lifeboats, airplane bombing of ships and airplanes landing in water also had some re-writing and clarifications made.

3rd Edition Rules are still compatible with 12th Anniversary Edition maps and pieces. For those who bought the 12th Anniversary Edition, you can purchase the rulebook separately as an economical way to upgrade. Mapsheets and counters are also available for individual sale to replace lost or damaged pieces.
