The best Knizia out there. There are multiple ways to win, and is masterfully balanced. It avoid both runaway leader, leader bashing, and left-player-syndrome issues.

Super Spiel fuer kleine Kinder!
Durch den "gerechten" Mechanismus koennen juengere Kinder auch prima mit aelteren Kindern spielen, da diese dort keinen Vorteil haben.

The best game there is for somebody in the 1½ to 2½ age range. It's still fine for slightly older children, but it really shines as a first game to teach winning, taking turns, color recognition, good sportsmanship, etc.

The player interaction (who doesn't like giving monkeys to their friends?) and the mechanism where you keep your turn until you succeed in getting one of your own monkeys are the brilliant Knizia touches here. In addition, the play length is exactly right (although we play two player with only one board per person), the bits are nice, it's portable...what's not to like here? Oh, and best of all my 21 month old daughter loves it and always wants to play!

My rating assumes playing against somebody in the proper age range. Against adults it's probably a 2 instead. Oh well, no game is perfect for everybody.

Yes, it's a simple, all luck kid's game. But my 3 year old can -- and always wants to -- play. Also helps him practice good sportsmanship, association, counting and fine motor skills. Hard to believe this was "designed" by Reiner Knizia. Nice plastic monkeys, bright art, and my son absolutely loves to play the "Monkey Game" with daddy. So that makes this a winner in my book. [UPDATE] I won't turn down a game of Monkey Madness, and it's a big hit at the conventions. We had more whooping and hollering for our massive 32-player Monkey Madness Tournament at the Geekway to the West than any other events that weekend. A real winner!

This game is a major hit in my family. There's considerable tension as everyone waits to see what color is drawn out of the bag. It can be quite funny when a player keeps drawing another player's color repeatedly. Plus, the game is very quick, so it can be played over and over so that everyone has a chance to win. Pure luck, but a lot of fun.

Rated for my kids (age 2 & 4) who would happily play ALL the time - it's my son's favourite game so would rate 10 for him, but it's already a bit young for my daughter, who doesn't ask to play again, again as often.

My little boy turned three, so I got him this, purely because it was designed by Reiner Knizia. He really enjoyed it and was laughing his head off when I lost by a mile. It is simplicity itself. You have coloured boards with several slots for your monkeys. You have a bag full of little coloured plastic monkeys. You reach into the bag, like in a lucky dip, and pull out monkeys. The monkey goes to whoever owns that colour of board. It's perfectly pitched for this age group.

Rated as a kid's game.

There are no decisions in this game. Luckily, it's really short, so I don't mind. My son loves pulling out the monkeys to see what he'll get, and really enjoys the game. Dissapointing that this is a Knizia, but I love the small format and small price.

My son (age 5) and daughter (age 2) love this game. No decision making whatsoever, no strategy, but for some reason they like drawing monkeys from the bag and putting them on their cards. It does help teach 4 colors (red, yellow, blue, green) and taking turns....

Rating for playing with young children only. I have to say that I am proud that this is the first game my daughter really "got" at about 2.5 years old. This taught her how to take turns non-standardly. And it's Knizia!

Update: My daughter out-grew it.

For the target age range (3-5) this game is fantastic. It really isn't even a game. You just draw monkeys out of a bag. The first player to have 6 monkeys of his color drawn wins. That's all there is. The thing is, our boys love it. There is always non-stop laughing and groaning when we play. The adults have so much fun watching the reactions of the kids. If played with the right age children, this game is great.

My rating of 7 assumes that the game is played with children in the target age range. I would say 3-4 years old. Above that, actual player decisions are necessary.

After reading the rules, I thought this would be a waste and that our children (barely 3 and 4.5) wouldn't even be amused. After all, it's BINGO. For those who don't know, here are the rules. Bag contains 7 monkeys in each of 4 colors. Pass the bag around the table, taking turns drawing. On your turn, draw until you get a monkey of your color. Each monkey drawn is given to the player of that color (so it really doesn't matter who does the drawing). First to have six monkeys wins. Turned out that our three-year-old loved it and his older sister easily tolerated it. I don't expect it will last long at all, as they'll soon figure it out, but it charmed The Younger, so that gets it a good rating. Plus, it's cheap ($6.95, I think, at Funagain and Funagain dollars are like the Euro these days). Playing time (drawing until all cards were filled), with 4 players was about 4-6 minutes per game.

This game as others have said is a 10 for kids 2-4. There is not much decision making as another reviewer mentioned, however it does develop recognition abilities with the colors and allows an equal chance of winning for all ages regardless of skill which is good for a little one. My 2 year old girl loves it and gets excited to play it.

the suckitude and lack of decisions is what makes it fun. for children, i actually don't even know if i approve because there are zero choices to be made. seems like yet another great game for prop betting, deciding who plays first, resolving a tie, etc.

Rating is for intended age group, would not be worth playing with adults.

As a first game for ages 2-3, this is a good choice, though I believe that there are better options. The components are colorful, the rules are simple. It lets the littlest kids play and have fun.It is also mercifully short and there is no chance for it to get stuck or drag (a common problem with kids games)- with only 24 monkeys in the bag, the game has to end fairly quickly. So for that it gets a few bonus points.

It's too bad, though, that the components are choking hazards so the game is marketed as being for ages 3 and up. By age 3, kids can play a more interesting game than this. My four-year-old complained to me that this is "boring" when playing with her two-year-old sister. So don't buy this for older kids.

Although this was popular with both of my kids as a first game, I think that Go Away Monster and Candyland Castle are better choices- they're both very similar to this, but I think they're a bit more fun.
