Have played about 15 hours so far and it has been excellent! I very much enjoy the game play - it is streamlined without losing the fun and flavor of the first edition! I can't wait to see Descent get back on the table again! We really enjoy getting through a full quest in 2 hours! Everything just plays so much quicker.

I love this game. I'm impressed how fast and streamlined the gameplay is. The action just flows. I'm also liking the quests: interestingly designed with enough sense of story without feeling too restrictive. Interesting variety of objectives, not just kill the boss monster. Outstanding game! Also enjoying how the expansions add variety without adding much in the way of rules overhead. To really see the potential here, you need to play the campaign. I'm hooked.

Fan-freaking-tastic game. Very different from first edition Descent, but still feels very familiar. The overlord is much more interesting now, and the built-in campaign is well implemented. The open system to use plastic from the first edition is simple & easy to use. This is a must play if you are even remotely interested.
Update - 21 plays in & this game is fantastic. Simple. Elegant. Very Fun.

From HeroQuest as a kid until now, I've always loved a good dungeon crawl board game. And I think this is as good as the genre has ever been. One thing to be clear on before you get into this is that it doesn't have the feeling of exploration that Hero Quest or Descent 1st edition gives you. This is a tactical fantasy miniatures game. You know the goals as soon as the encounter is set up and it's basically a small tactical battle. I know some people don't like 2nd Ed and the lack of exploration is the root of all their problems with the game. The thing is, exploring rooms and killing stuff and collecting treasure gets old after a while if there isn't a strong story linking it all together. Hero Quest (as much as I love it) and Descent 1st Ed. suffer from this sameyness. In fact no board game has succeeded in giving a dungeon crawl feel along with a strong story- for that you need to play D&D. Another thing 2nd has going over 1st edition is that this is so much more streamlined and easy to play than the bloated sessions of 1st Ed which basically ended up going nowhere anyway. Anyway, enough comparisons. This game has so many diverse scenarios and is rich with so much material, campaigns, and monsters, heroes, classes, etc. You could play forever and never do the same thing. And with a little imagination you can really get into the game and your character. And there is a sense of discovery and story finding new equipment, encountering new monsters, and when each quest is set up, etc. Combat is varied and fun with lots of special abilities but it doesn't bog down. Components are stellar. Great game.

While there are some issues with LOS, I love the development of this game. As well as the mechanics for leveling up and the choices you can make in the story.

It doesn't see the table nearly as much as I'd like, but that's probably because I want to play it every day. It hits everything I love about a game; it's a dungeon crawler, it is loaded with plastic minis, the components are beautiful and it's just a really fun game to play.

This game is a blast. We were looking for a good campaign game, and this fits the bill. Only complaint is some of the scenarios are almost impossible for one of the sides to win.

Every play after from number 8 on includes Lair of the Wyrm. All the plays include the conversion kit.

Also have 1 set of extra dice as well!

Plays from 13 on include Labyrinth of Ruin as well

Play 14 added the 6 lieutenants from the Base game and the trollfens and Valyndra as well

Play 19 on added Shadow of Nerekhall

Play 24 on added Manor of Ravens

Also have 1 translucent blue power die from Game Night as well

One of my favourite board games of all time. Few other games in my collection have had the staying power of Descent. I still want to play it just as much as I did when I bought it on the day it was released. It's that good.

It's the game I was waiting for to scratch my dungeon crawler itch, which I've had ever since I was a kid playing HeroQuest. It is so much fun and it plays relatively quickly. There is so much awesome stuff in the box and the Quest Guide is huge. The minis are AMAZING. You can't go wrong with this game.

Love all the changes from the old edition: Easier to jump into/teach. Campaign rules right from the start. Streamlined gameplay (by cutting fiddly parts that brought nothing particularly interesting to the game to begin with). Conversion kit from the old edition means I instantly have 40+ heroes and a pile of monsters to use. Quests in the booklet are more customizable.

That anyone would prefer the old edition over this one completely baffles me.

Regardless of comparisons to the old edition, this is one of my all-time favourite board games. It's about as good a dungeon crawl as you'll ever find without jumping up to a full-on table-top RPG system. Loads of fun.

Brilliant game. Took a good game (Descent v1) and made it better. A lot more objective focus as opposed to senseless killing and the new co-op scenarious push it to the top

I loved first edition despite how long and clunky it was.

Second edition retains almost everything I loved about the original while improving it in many ways. This is a fantastic game that makes it to the table much more frequently than its predecessor.

Not every quest is perfectly balanced, but the campaign play overall is outstanding. This game is a blast to play as the heroes or the overlord.

I was a huge proponent of Descent (first edition). Dungeon crawls speak to me, and Descent 1e has always stood out to be as the best dungeon crawler available. Personally, 2e has blown 1e away so far. The only flaw I had with 1e was the length. 2e fixes that, and the way it was fixed (that I initially feared) is a stroke of genius, and works, and is highly enjoyable. Being able to integrate 1e into the new edition is a huge plus. Everything is just lovely. I will own it forever.

Debates and discussions aside, this is one of my favorite games to date. At the end of the day, I just have tons of fun with it, regardless of issues that I don't really care much about. 10/10 from me.

I like the new edition, it streamlines the game a lot and has a built in campaign mode. Now the overlord and the heroes are competing to accomplish separate objectives, rather than having the goal be loot and kills. This makes it more about the Tactical Miniature game, so it feel a little different but it's still a great game.

A fantasy dungeon-crawl, similar to Dungeons and Dragons in board game form. Unlike D&D, the Dungeon Master is an actual adversary, doing his best to slaughter the players before they manage to defeat him.
