After playing a few more times, I'm also raising my rating from 9 to 10. I can't find anything I don't like about playing the game. Just a fun, easy to play, great game. Enough plotting and strategy to keep things fresh, simple enough to begin playing heavily right away. I like it a lot!!!!

They took everything wrong with Magic the Gathering (not much, but some!) and made it better. As long as you can stand the Saturday morning hyper sugar kid's ADHD theme, it's a really well designed game.

Simple and fast, but still very tactical. Like how cards can double as mana - the interesting decisions are in what cards to keep and what to use as mana. The shield mechanic is also a great feature, giving extra cards to a player when they are losing keeps games close.

In my opinion, the best designed TCG ever. Overall not as deep and strategic as Magic(it is Magic without many of the complications)

A wonderfully easy game to play with your kids. Choosing which card to play in the mana zone is always a hard decision. Nice to play a CCG with no extra stuff (coins, counters, etc.) needed, as the shields provide an easy means to see who is winning.

A wonderful game that really evolved as the sets progressed. Much more to it than it was generally given credit for by the CCG crowd in the US. I wish it would have held on in the US like it has in Japan :-(

While I utterly despise any and all things Magic, this lighter version has become popular with my 8 year old son. It is much easier to play, the artwork is patently adult (meaning better than you'd think), for what is basically a kids game, and the rules simple. Any game that lets my son enjoy spending time with me is definately one we'll collect.

A superior CCG that is extremely well-designed. Gaining a card when you lose a "shield" is brillant and it has one of the easiest resource management mechanics in a CCG. Perfect for younger kids, the artwork may turn off adults -- but get past it and play a couple games before dismissing it. Recommended.

More simple, more strategy and more excitement than Magic the gathering without the bugs of MTG. Still, this game is not in the interest of CCG gamers. But many Non-CCG gamers like it.

Magic lite. Actually, I think the use of shields to keep track of "life" and the use of cards as either mana or spells/creatures might actually be improvements on the original. Playing this with my son reminds me a lot of playing with the Portal cards WOTC tried a while back.

I only own a starter deck, but I've played a large number of games with the PS2 game and some on the GBA titles.
I hate the TCG/CCG format, but I liked the gameplay of DM a lot. Also, it does help that I'm really in love with the artwork and the graphic design!

Good card game. I particularly like the shields system and the way any card can be a resource/mana. My rating may increase if they can make the card mechanics slightly more interesting. A good game as is, though.

Simplified version of Magic: The Gathering. Two player collectible card game. Each player starts with 5 cards as shields. On your turn you can put down a card as "mana" (magic energy), then use your mana to summon creatures or cast spells. The creatures can then attack the other player's shields or creatures. The objective is to break all the other players shields. You must build your own deck.

I've been a Magic card guy for years. We have since plugged the leak we had in our bank account that seemed to funnel towards buying new cards. That being said, I'm usually bias about collectable card games and Magic is my favorite.

However years ago at Gencon we found DuelMasters being clearanced out and we picked some up. We played this for hours and hours in the hotel room playing drafts and anything else we could come up with. In my opinion if you haven't tried this game, please do. It is fun, yet simple and hours of fun.

Magic without the steroids. Actually not that bad, but a much smaller metagame. Try the GBA version to get a taste of it if you can't find opponents. Try Bang! you have more then 2 players. Try Fillet of Fish if you are sick of Big Macs.

A bare-bones CCG targeting young players. High power values (ala Yu-Gi-Oh) and flashy anime-esque art drive this game, which naturally, has foils. Game play is reasonable and somewhat engaging.

Downgraded a point for collectibility. Not a bad little game, really: Magic Lite is a good description, but they solved Magic's biggest problem (dedicated land cards). Didn't really catch on, though.

While the concept of using cards as "land" is great, the ultra-rare chasing and total power balance that's tied into rarity makes this game hurt too much to play.

Swapping out a common with a rare should not AUTOMATICALLY make your deck better, but it almost always does in this game.

Yet another Magic variant. Gameplay is not bad, and I like that the same cards are used for 'spells' and 'mana', but most of the cards are pretty unexciting. Odd creature names and artwork that doesn't look like much.

Typical CCG with simple rules. There is nothing here that 'grabs' you more than any of the dozens of other Magic clones (this is actually a scaled down version of Magic). Fun for a few plays but not memorable.

An interesting CCG that is geared at the younger crowd but is mechanically sound and could be played by others. As has been said before, this is similar to Magic: The Gathering, but simpler (and with an even broader and wackier theme, which I thought would be tough to pull off and still not feel completely bland).

Like Magic, but simplified. Only has creatures and spells (no instants or enchantments). Instead of 20 life, you have 6 shield cards, which is actually a nice and simple way to represent life and sort of help out someone who is getting pummeled. Cards can be played upside-down as lands, which is cool. Not as polished, involving, or deep as Magic, though.
